I squinted, suspicion clouding my thoughts. "To where?" I asked, glancing at the clock on the wall. "It's getting late, you know."
He smiled, that rare, genuine smile that always caught me off guard. "It's a surprise," he said, his eyes twinkling with excitement.
I groaned, rolling my eyes. "You know I hate surprises, Logan."
"You'll love this one, I promise," he said, his tone softening as he reached out his hand.
I exhaled, feeling a mixture of curiosity and reluctance. "Fine," I said, placing my hand in his.
He gently squeezed my hand, guiding me out of the room and down the long, winding halls of the mansion. Each step we took echoed softly, the grandeur of the surroundings heightening the sense of anticipation.
The familiar corridors echoed with our footsteps, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over me. We passed by classrooms and common areas, each corner holding memories of laughter, learning, and loss.
As we reached the garage, the scent of motor oil and metal filled the air. Logan's truck stood waiting, a sturdy, reliable beast that had seen its fair share of battles. He opened the door for me, always the gentleman despite his tough exterior.
"Get in, Doc," he said, his voice soft but commanding.
I climbed into the passenger seat, feeling a flutter of anticipation in my chest. Logan slid in behind the wheel, starting the engine with a low rumble. As we drove out of the garage and onto the open road, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement building within me.
I looked his way, my gaze fixated on his rugged face, the way his eyes softened when he looked at me. I'd never felt this way for anyone before. Despite everything I was going through, Logan had this uncanny ability to show me the good in my life, to remind me that there was still beauty and joy to be found.
"You're staring," he said, his gruff voice cutting through my thoughts. "It's creepy."
I laughed, the sound light and genuine. "Keep your eyes on the road."
Logan chuckled, a rare sound that warmed my heart. "Keep staring. We're about to be there."
As we continued down the road, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. Whatever Logan had planned, I knew it was going to be something special, something that would make me appreciate the moments we had together even more.
"Close your eyes," Logan said, his voice gentle but firm.
I lifted my hands mockingly, showing them to him before placing them above my eyes. "Like this?" I asked with a teasing grin.
"Exactly like that," he replied, a hint of amusement in his tone.
I felt the car start to go over a rocky surface, the vibrations beneath us growing more pronounced. My curiosity piqued, I tried to peek through my fingers, but the constant movement made it impossible to decipher anything.
