As the team started to chat whatever came to mind, Storm's curiosity finally got the better of her. "So, Y/N, what exactly is your mutation?" she asked, looking at you with genuine interestYou hesitated for a moment, still feeling the heat from the earlier attention. "Uh, I'm an eagle mutant. I have wings, enhanced vision, and a pretty good sense of flight. It's not as flashy as some of the other powers, but it works for me."
Jean's eyes widened slightly. "I had no idea. That's impressive."
Scott smiled and nodded in agreement. " I Guess we have another ace up our sleeve."
The conversation then shifted to more mundane topics as the team began to discuss their plans for the future and how they'd handle any fallout from the events at the Statue of Liberty.
The tension in the room eased as they chatted about strategies, training sessions, and upcoming missions.
Logan tapped you on the shoulder, a silent cue that it was time to head back into your shared room
So you and Logan quietly slipped away from the group, making your way back to your shared room. Your face was still partially hidden behind your hands, trying to keep your embarrassment in check.
As you both entered the room, Logan went to grab a couple of beers from the mini-fridge. "Want one?" he asked, his tone more relaxed.
You nodded gratefully. "Yeah, sure. Could use a drink after today."
Logan tossed you a beer then tossed his jacket onto the chair by the desk and cracked his neck with a grunt. "Hell of a day," he muttered, rubbing his shoulder as he sat on the edge of his bed
"Yeah, no kidding," you replied, letting out a deep breath. You walked over to your bed, flopping down with a heavy sigh. "Think I'll sleep for the next week." you took a sip of your beer
Logan chuckled. "You and me both bub"
You glanced over at him, noticing the faint bruises and scratches from his fight with Magneto. He was healing, of course, but the whole ordeal had taken its toll on both of you. Still, Logan seemed more concerned about Rogue, you and the rest of the team than his own injuries, as usual
After a few moments of silence, you rolled onto your back and stared up at the ceiling, the adrenaline of the day slowly wearing off. "Y'know," you said, your voice low, "I didn't think I'd end up being the one to save the day. Was just trying to stay out of the way."
Logan smirked, leaning back against the wall. "That's how it goes. The second you think you're outta the mess, it pulls you right back in."
You chuckled softly. "Guess so."
As you lay there, your mind started to settle, but there was still a subtle tension lingering in the room. Logan, sitting on his bed, took a long sip of his beer, his eyes occasionally flicking over to you as if he had something on his mind. You could feel it, that unspoken energy between the two of you, heightened by the intensity of the day.
"You handled yourself pretty well out there," Logan said, his tone gruff but with a hint of something else, maybe admiration, maybe something deeper. It was hard to tell with him.
You opened one eye, peeking at him from behind your hands as you replied, "Yeah? Didn't feel like it. Mostly felt like I was winging it...literally." You chuckled at your own joke, trying to ease the growing tension in the room.
Logan smirked at that, his gaze softening a little. "Still, you saved Rogue. That's more than most people could've done."
You shifted slightly on your bed, feeling the weight of his words. There was an undeniable edge to the way he was looking at you now, something that made your skin tingle
You weren't sure if it was the leftover adrenaline from the day or just the fact that you and Logan had been through a lot together recently, but it made the room feel...smaller, more intimate.
"Guess we're even then," you said, trying to keep the mood light. "You've saved my ass enough times already."
Logan's smirk deepened, but he didn't say anything. Instead, he stood up, walking the short distance between your beds until he was standing right next to yours
He looked down at you, his beer dangling from one hand, the other resting casually on his hip. You could feel the heat radiating off him, his presence somehow both comforting and unsettling at the same time.
"You ever gonna stop tryin' to play it cool?" he asked, his voice low, almost teasing. He was closer now, close enough that you could see the faint stubble on his jaw, the scars that hadn't quite healed yet.
You raised an eyebrow, sitting up a little. "Me? I *am* cool," you shot back, though your voice wavered just a bit, "Coolest person in town"
Logan chuckled, his eyes holding yours for a beat too long. "Yeah, sure. Keep tellin' yourself that, bub."
There was a pause, the air between you charged with something unspoken. You weren't sure if it was the adrenaline, the exhaustion, or maybe just the fact that you'd both nearly died today—but for a moment, it felt like anything could happen.
But then, just as quickly, Logan pulled back, retreating to his own bed with another grunt as if the moment hadn't happened at all. He tossed the empty beer bottle into the trash can and stretched his arms behind his head.
"Get some sleep," he muttered, his usual gruffness back in place. "Long day tomorrow."
You let out a breath you didn't realize you'd been holding, the tension easing just a little. "Yeah," you said quietly, turning over and pulling the blanket up to your shoulders. "You too."
As you lay there, the room returned to its comfortable quiet, but the charged moment still lingered in the back of your mind. Whatever it was, you knew it wasn't something either of you would talk about—at least, not tonight
