The morning light filtered through the thick canopy of trees surrounding the cabin, casting golden streaks across the wooden floor. Izzy stirred, her body still wrapped in the warmth of the bed, though the reality of their situation settled cold and heavy in her chest. Damian lay beside her, his arm draped across her waist, his breathing steady, but even in sleep, his brow was furrowed with tension.

The events of the previous night played over and over in Izzy's mind-Luca's sudden appearance, his thinly veiled threats, and Damian's father looming like a shadow over everything. The Rossi family wouldn't stay quiet for long. And her father... she shuddered at the thought of what he might do if he discovered the truth.

Damian shifted beside her, his arm tightening around her for a brief moment before he opened his eyes. The moment their gazes met, the weight of unspoken words hung between them.

"We can't stay here much longer," Damian said, his voice hoarse from sleep but laced with determination. "Luca's warning wasn't just a bluff. My father is going to start looking for me-and for us."

Izzy sat up, pulling the covers around her as if they could somehow protect her from the dangers outside. "Where will we go? We can't hide forever."

Damian rubbed his hand over his face, tension creeping into his posture. "I've been thinking. We need more information-about our families, about the history between them. There are too many gaps, too many things that don't make sense."

Izzy frowned, her mind racing. "You said my father and yours were business partners once, but something went wrong. What if there's more to it? Something bigger that neither of us knows?"

Damian nodded, his eyes sharp. "Exactly. And if we can find out what really happened, maybe we can use it to our advantage."

Izzy's pulse quickened. This wasn't just about them anymore-it was about uncovering the truth, about dismantling the power structure that had controlled their lives for so long. But the risks were high, and the clock was ticking.

"Where do we start?" she asked, determination settling in her chest.

Damian's expression darkened. "My uncle. He knows things-about the business, about my father. He's been out of the family dealings for years, but if anyone has answers, it's him."

Izzy swallowed hard. The idea of confronting anyone connected to Damian's family filled her with dread, but they had no choice. They needed to know the truth, and they needed it fast.

"When can we see him?" she asked.

Damian glanced at his phone, which had been silent since Luca's visit. "Tonight. He lives a few hours from here. It's risky, but we'll be careful."

Izzy nodded, a sense of urgency filling the room. The walls were closing in around them, and if they didn't act soon, their forbidden love could become the least of their worries.

The drive to Damian's uncle's house was tense and quiet. The deeper they went into the countryside, the more isolated the landscape became, as if they were traveling into the heart of some long-forgotten secret. Damian's grip on the steering wheel was tight, his eyes flicking to the rearview mirror more often than usual, searching for any sign that they were being followed.

Izzy couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in the pit of her stomach. It wasn't just the danger-they were treading on territory neither of them fully understood. She glanced at Damian, whose jaw was set in that hard, determined way that both comforted and worried her.

Finally, they arrived at a secluded farmhouse, surrounded by overgrown fields and tall, rustling trees. It looked worn but sturdy, like it had stood the test of time, much like the secrets it likely held.

Damian cut the engine and turned to her. "Let me do most of the talking. My uncle's... well, he's unpredictable."

Izzy nodded, though her nerves were frayed. They had come too far to back down now.

Damian knocked on the weathered door, and after a few tense moments, it creaked open. A tall man with salt-and-pepper hair and a sharp gaze stood in the doorway, his eyes narrowing as they landed on Damian.

"Damian," the man said, his voice gruff but not unkind. "It's been a long time."

"Uncle Tony," Damian replied, his voice strained with unspoken tension. "We need to talk."

Tony's eyes flicked to Izzy, his brow furrowing in recognition. "And you must be Izzy. I wondered when you'd show up on my doorstep." He stepped aside, allowing them inside. "Come in. I've been expecting you."

Izzy exchanged a nervous glance with Damian, who looked just as surprised as she felt. Expecting them?

The inside of the house was cluttered but cozy, a far cry from the opulent world Damian usually inhabited. Tony led them to a small sitting room, where he poured three cups of black coffee and gestured for them to sit.

"I figured you'd come around eventually," Tony said, settling into an armchair. "You and that girl were always bound to end up in a mess like this. The question is, what do you want from me?"

Damian leaned forward, his voice low. "The truth. About my father, about hers." He gestured to Izzy. "We need to know what really happened between our families."

Tony sighed heavily, running a hand through his graying hair. "It's a long story, kid. And not a pretty one. But if you're here, you must already know that."

Izzy's heart raced as Tony began to speak, his words unraveling the web of lies that had tied their families together for so long.

"Your fathers-they weren't just business partners. They were more than that. Partners in crime, so to speak. They ran this city together for years-had it all under their control. But greed, pride, and ambition got in the way. They both wanted more, and neither was willing to back down."

Izzy leaned forward, her throat tight with anticipation. "What happened to make them enemies?"

Tony's gaze darkened. "A deal gone bad. Your father, Izzy-he double-crossed Damian's dad, took something that wasn't his. But it wasn't just about the money. It was personal."

Damian's hands clenched into fists. "What did he take?"

Tony hesitated, his eyes flicking between the two of them. "The future. Your father took the future your families had planned together. And he made sure there was no going back."

Izzy's pulse raced, the pieces of the puzzle starting to fall into place. But something still didn't make sense. "Why didn't my father ever tell me? Why keep it all a secret?"

Tony's expression softened slightly. "Because your father knows that if you knew the truth, you'd never forgive him. And Damian's father-he's been waiting for revenge ever since."

The weight of Tony's words settled over them like a thick fog. Their love wasn't just forbidden-it was built on a foundation of betrayal and lies, a legacy of violence and ambition.

Izzy's mind spun with the implications of what they'd just learned. Their fathers weren't just enemies-they were the architects of the very world that was tearing them apart.
