Time slowed as Izzy's mind screamed at her to run, to escape the looming danger-but her body refused to move. Every fiber of her being was tethered to Damian, her heart refusing to abandon him. The cool night air, the moonlight casting ghostly shadows over the forest floor, and the sheer stillness in Luca's dark, calculating eyes sent a chill down her spine.

"Last warning," Luca growled, his grip tightening on the gun aimed at Damian's chest. "Get lost, or he dies right here."

Izzy's chest heaved as fear warred with the stubborn fire inside her. She clenched her fists, taking a step forward. "I'm not leaving him."

Damian's jaw clenched, his eyes wide with desperation. "Izzy, go!" His voice cracked under the weight of the moment, but it wasn't enough to sway her.

She couldn't leave him, not now.

Luca smirked, his eyes gleaming with cruel amusement. "You're brave. Stupid, but brave."

Izzy swallowed hard, her heart hammering against her ribs. There was no way she was going to let Luca win. If she didn't act now, Damian would be dead, and they'd be right back under their fathers' control-forever. No more running. No more choices. No more hope.

And then, a glimmer of an idea sparked in her mind.

Her eyes flicked to Luca's gun, then back to his cold, unfeeling eyes. She straightened her spine, forcing herself to appear calmer than she felt. "Fine. You win."

Damian's eyes widened. "What are you doing?"

Luca tilted his head, momentarily confused, but he kept his gun trained on Damian.

Izzy raised her hands slowly, taking another step forward. "I'll go. Just... let me say goodbye."

Damian's eyes flashed with fear, but Izzy shot him a look that made him pause. He was tense, his body rigid under Luca's weight, but he stayed silent, watching her closely.

Luca chuckled, a low, mocking sound. "Goodbye, huh? Fine. Make it quick."

Izzy's heart raced as she closed the distance between them, every step calculated, her mind racing with the plan she'd hastily pieced together. Luca's arrogance would be his downfall-he underestimated her, thought she was just another pawn in the game.

She knelt beside Damian, her hands trembling slightly as she cupped his face. Her breath was shaky, but she forced herself to keep her eyes steady on his.

"Izzy," he whispered, his voice strained. "What are you doing?"

Her thumb brushed his cheek, her eyes locking with his, conveying what she couldn't say out loud. Trust me.

And then, with lightning speed, she moved.

In one swift motion, she grabbed a rock from the ground beside her and swung it at Luca's hand, knocking the gun free. Luca let out a grunt of pain as the weapon flew out of his grip, skidding across the forest floor. Damian seized the moment, shoving Luca off him with a surge of strength.

Izzy scrambled to her feet, her pulse racing as she and Damian darted toward the gun. But Luca wasn't done yet. He was back on his feet in an instant, his face twisted with fury, charging toward them like a wild animal.

Damian reached the gun first, scooping it up and pointing it directly at Luca, who froze, his chest heaving as he glared at them with a mixture of anger and disbelief.

"You won't shoot me," Luca sneered, taking a step closer. "You don't have it in you, Damian. You're not a killer."

Damian's hands shook slightly, the weight of the gun heavy in his grip. Izzy could see the conflict in his eyes-the hesitation, the fear. Luca was right. Damian wasn't a killer, and they all knew it.

But that didn't mean they were out of options.

Izzy stepped forward, placing her hand on Damian's arm, steadying him. Her voice was low, calm. "You don't have to kill him. We just need to get out of here."

Damian's jaw clenched, his eyes never leaving Luca's. Slowly, he nodded, lowering the gun but keeping it trained on Luca. "We're leaving. Don't follow us."

Luca's smirk returned, though his eyes burned with hatred. "You think you can just walk away? My father won't stop. You know that. There's no escape."

Damian's eyes darkened, his voice low and dangerous. "Maybe not. But you're not stopping us tonight."

Without another word, Damian grabbed Izzy's hand, pulling her with him as they backed away from Luca. She glanced over her shoulder, her heart racing as they disappeared back into the cover of the trees.

They ran for what felt like hours, the adrenaline fueling their every step, pushing them deeper into the forest, away from the man who had nearly ended it all. The trees closed in around them, the night swallowing them whole as they kept moving, their breaths ragged and heavy.

Finally, they slowed, stumbling into another clearing, the distant sound of rushing water filling the air. Damian stopped, doubling over to catch his breath, and Izzy collapsed beside him, her legs shaking beneath her.

For a moment, they just sat there, the weight of what had just happened pressing down on them.

"I thought... I thought we were dead," Izzy whispered, her voice shaky.

Damian's eyes were still wild, his hands trembling as he ran them through his hair. "So did I."

Izzy turned to him, her heart aching as she saw the turmoil etched on his face. She reached out, taking his hand in hers, the warmth of his skin grounding her in the chaos of it all.

"We did it," she said softly. "We're alive. And we're together."

Damian looked at her, his eyes searching hers for something-reassurance, hope, maybe even forgiveness. And then, in one fluid motion, he pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly against him. Izzy's breath caught as she melted into his embrace, her hands clutching his shirt as if letting go would mean losing him all over again.

"Izzy," he murmured into her hair, his voice thick with emotion. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have let it get this far."

She shook her head, her cheek pressed against his chest. "No. You didn't do this. They did. We're just trying to survive."

He pulled back just enough to look at her, his hands framing her face as his eyes locked with hers. The intensity in his gaze made her heart skip a beat, the air between them thick with unspoken words.

"We'll keep running," Damian said, his voice low and determined. "But I won't let them take you. Not ever."

Izzy's breath hitched, her pulse quickening as his words settled over her like a promise. And in that moment, with the danger still looming in the distance, the connection between them deepened, the tension bubbling just beneath the surface.

Without thinking, Izzy closed the distance between them, her lips crashing into his. The kiss was fierce, desperate, a release of all the fear, anger, and desire that had been building between them. Damian responded with equal intensity, his hands tangling in her hair as he pulled her closer, their bodies pressed together in the cool night air.

It was reckless, it was dangerous, but neither of them cared. They had survived, and now, they were taking what little time they had for themselves-for the love that had sparked in the midst of chaos.

The world around them faded away, and for that brief moment, there was only Damian, only Izzy, and the fire that burned between them.

But the danger hadn't disappeared. It was lurking, waiting. And soon, they would have to face it all over again.
