Summer 10

"Sam!" A muffled voice yelled, followed by pounding and the door knob jiggling woke Sam.

His eyes shot open, a slight gasp as he looked to his clock, 7:30. They'd over slept.

As sweet as Wren looked curled up into his chest, he's rather not be caught naked in bed with her by his family.

"Shit!" We whispered, shooting forward. Wren's face scrunched up as she rubbed her face.

"Sam! I want to talk to you" Vincent yelled again, seemingly trying to break his door down.

"J-Just a minute, Vince! I'm getting dressed!" He called out, his voice groggy and broken. Jumping out of bed, he found his shorts, stumbling as he pulled them up his legs.

"What- What's going on?" Wren mumbled, squinting as she sat up. Sam's heart began racing, the door still shaking as he gathered her clothes.

"Look, uh, I know what this looks like, and I promise it is not that, but in about thirty seconds an eight year old boy is going to bust through my door and uh, be permanently traumatized." He whispered, piling Wrens clothes on the bed before pulling her to her feet.

"You seem well practiced at this." Wren sneered, her voice grumpy as she hurriedly pulled her clothes on.

"No. I uh, I've never actually spent the night with a girl." He winced, trying to sooth over whatever impression she was getting.

"Well, what a romantic ending." She smiled softly. He followed her to the window, opening it quietly before peeking his head out to scan for potential narks.

"Okay, you're clear." He sighed.

As she moved to climb out, he reached out to her shoulders to stop her, leaning down to firmly kiss her.

"Wren, I promise I meant everything I did and said last night." He whispered, holding her still. She nodded, her smile growing.

"I did too. I'll see you tomorrow, at the luau?" She asked, to which Sam nodded quickly.

"I'll be there."

"Sammmmmmm!" Vincent yelled again, before Wren slipped out the window, hurrying down the path to her farm. He felt his chest beaming with joy as he watched her walk away.

"Coming!" He hollered, walking to the door. He twisted the lock, and before he opened it completely, Vincent was busting through, running to jump into his bed.

"Ew, it stinks in here." His face scrunched up.

"Listen, you wanna be in here, you gotta pay the tax." Sam sighed, walking back to his bed and flopping down on his stomach.

"What's tax?" Vincent asked jumping across Sam's back, resulting in Sam groaning deeply as the air was pushed out of his lungs.

"It means you have to go get me a glass of water."

"What happened to your back? Were you climbing trees with miss Penny again?" Vincent asked, his fingers slapping down on the indents from Wren's fingers.

Sam shot up, causing Vincent to fall over, but he was more concerned with what he said about Penny.

"What? What are you talking about? How do you know we-" He stopped himself, trying not to give too much away. "What do you mean?" He asked slower, and Vincent giggled.

"The night of the flower dance! Mom and miss Marnie let me and Jazz stay up late and play, and I went outside to find my toy truck. I saw you and miss Penny climbing up a tree!" He giggled.
