Summer 27 - Continued
Wren slammed the front door shut, her hands shaking. She felt a hollow, hopeless feeling.
"Wren, sweetheart?"
Jodi's voice snapped her out of her trance. She looked up, knowing how swollen her eyes and lips were, Jodi's eyes filled with compassion.
"Are you okay?" She moved towards Wren, but she couldn't do it.
"I'm sorry." Wren whispered, pushing past Jodi, briefly making eye contact with Vincent who stood behind her, eyes wide.
As she walked up the road, she clapped a hand over her mouth to keep from sobbing out. She couldn't be alone right now.
She imagined this is what Sam felt like when she left him on the beach. It only made her angrier, knowing how little she wanted to be with anyone else.
She let herself into Abby's house with the spare key under the rug. Busting through Abby's bedroom door, she just stood there, eyebrows drawn together, her heartbeat throbbing through her body.
Abby jumped, turning to see Wren.
"Shit! You scared me! What are you do- What's wrong?" She started, before noticing the state Wren was in.
She remained silent, closing the door behind her and walking to sit on Abby's bed. Abby rushed to her, placing one hand on her back, the other on her knee.
"Wren what happened?" Abby spoke softly.
Wren looked over at her, struggling to force the words out of her mouth.
If she said it, if she let Abby know, there was no going back. It was real. It happened, and she was alone.
"What did he do?" Abby said after a few more moments of silence.
Wren swallowed hard.
"He... He did sleep with Penny. The night of the flower dance, after he tried to tell me he loved me. He slept with her an hour later."
Another series of sobs left her mouth as Abby's arms wrapped around her, pulling her into a tight hug, one hand securely holding her head against her chest as Wren's shoulders shook, her tears soaking Abby's shirt.
"I'm sorry, Wren. I'm so sorry." She whispered, laying her own head against Wrens, rocking her back and forth.
She couldn't stop her tears, being in the comfort of her friends arms allowing her to see the full picture, accept the truth. And she mourned.
She mourned her relationship, but she also mourned the person she thought she knew. Sam wasn't who she thought he was, and that was maybe the hardest thing to accept, that she was naive enough to believe he was different.
"I'm gonna kill him. I'm gonna kill him so hard." Abby muttered after a few minuets, after Wren's crying began to settle.
"No, no, don't talk to him about it. Don't approach him. And don't tell Seb." Wren sniffed, wiping her eyes.
"Trust me. If I don't kill him, Seb will. Or his mother. He will have a hit placed on him by tomorrow." Abby said, resulting in a small chuckle.
"Here's what we're gonna do." Abby sighed, sitting Wren up. "I'm gonna lend you a change of clothes, you're going to take a nice, long shower, and I'm gonna go into the store and grab some popcorn, we'll put on a happy movie, and we can talk about all the stupid embarrassing things he's done that you couldn't talk about while dating him." She smiled, making Wren laugh again.
"Okay. Thank you, Abby. Really." Wren pouted slightly, grabbing Abby's hand.
"It's my pleasure, Wren. I love you. This is what best friends do." Abby smiled back, squeezing her hand.
