Wren

---

Fall 24

Wren sat on her porch, clutching her cup of coffee.

Three weeks.

She gave herself three weeks to live her life Sam free. Three weeks to make up her mind, three weeks to decide who she wants to be in this life, and who she wants to live it with.

In three weeks, she hoped to make up her mind on if she's willing to work through the events of the last month to be with him, of if she can manage to let him go.

Three weeks is long enough, right?

She grabbed the journal next to her with a deep breath. If this was going to work, she had to have a plan. Enough on her plate to keep her mind off of him, but not too much that she's miserable.

1 - TOP PRIORITY

          - Finish the fruit forest

          - Set up wine shed + cellar

          - Lay pathing

          - Call Harvey

2 - IF THERE'S TIME

          - Upgrade irrigation system

          - Build Abby her own room (a guest bedroom)

Fall 26

The ticking of the clock in the office filled the awkward silence.

Across from her sat Harvey, maintaining a soft eye contact.

She called asking him to get in touch with a therapist on her behalf. Little did she know, keeping him at an arm's length to avoid being medically banned from the mines made him confident enough for her to be his first client of his new psychiatric degree.

She knew he was waiting for her to speak first. But she didn't know what to say.

"I don't know what to say." She spoke louder than she intended, her voice seemingly booming through the room.

"Well, what made you want to reach out to a therapist to begin with?" He smiled at her.

Wren scoffed, "I mean... you know why Sam's gone, right?"

Harvey shook his head softly, "No. I mean, yes, I know what happened. But he wouldn't tell anyone who that guy was or what lead to him, well..." Harvey shrugged at the end.

Wren's eyes softened. That made it worse, her guilt. So much worse. He was protecting her to the point he was willing to look unhinged, psychotic.

"Oh." She said, looking to the floor.

"Did you know him?"

Memories crossed her mind. Not all the bad, but the little good appeared too.

"Yes. He..." She swallowed hard, looking back up to meet Harvey's eyes, "he's my ex. I was living with him before I moved here. He was..." She took a deep breath. It's time to call a spade a spade.

"He was abusive. Mentally and... physically. Once. He hit me once."

She looked away before she could see Harvey's reaction. She didn't want the sympathy.

"I'm very sorry to hear that, Wren. It must have been surreal, panic inducing to see him here."

She nodded softly, playing with her fingers.
