It all kind of happened like clockwork. A boy, Bill I think, dived from a tree. He fired his B-B. I dived for mine Jamie, Jake, Ryan and Kate followed suit. Otto grabbed his bow and Cat, who was also in a bush, threw him some arrows. We tried to just hit them in arms and legs. Once their smaller group was down we knew it wouldn't be long until the rest came, so we ran to the camp.
"TAKE THE YOUNG ONES OVER THE BRIDGE!" I shouted, running. Mike and Jim seemed taken aback but eventually turned and lead the kids over the bridge. The larger mass of evil bodies advanced until I could almost smell them. Near the front was Carl. He was one of my friends who was ill and had been home sick the day the pause happened. I looked him in the eye, expecting something. A sign he could be trusted. Then I saw him wink. I winked back. I was sure I could trust him but I had to deal with the rest first.
The following battle was so intense it would be impossible to imagine. Children pouncing on children looking like a grotesque game. I think I hit five with my metal B-B bullets. I swore I saw someone run behind them and when I saw their face I nearly fainted. Daphne. When she vanished from view. "Look out!"
I turned to see a kid charge at me with a penknife. I span and crushed his wrist with my elbow. He fell clutching his arm with red liquid pouring from in-between his fingers. I had to get away from him. I scaled a tree and tried to calm myself down. "Hey." I looked. Daphne. I rubbed my eyes only to see her vanish. "I must be going mad." I guessed. I then slid down and started to fight. When the battle was at its most hysterical I ran over the bridge. I ran all the way to the littlies and the few guards. "Yo, how's da battle?" Mike asked. "Fine I guess. Its mad isn't it, all of us are kids and now were fighting a full scale battle." I said. "Did you see my sis, she's fine isn't she?" Jim asked. I looked to the floor. I had seen her and she was being chased by a couple of idiots. The odds weren't in her favour. "Last time I saw her she was fine." I answered. The best lies are partially true. I looked around for Scarlet and Théo. "Why can't I fight!?" Théo demanded. I looked him in the eye and said, "I need my best man to guard Scarlet and for her to guard you." They both smiled. I gave everyone a twister and ran back to the almost eternal battle. When I got back I realised that we had nearly won. I climbed atop one of the wooden huts. "STOP!!" Everyone looked at me. "Yes, I know you have been fighting for a while but let's just stop. I know you need more people and there's no way you're going to win this so why don't we just work together?" I looked at my audience. At first I think they understood. Then I saw Carl raise his gun, aimed and fired. The shot hit me in the chest and I recoiled looking at my now red t-shirt.
