florence instantly regretted turning around, her eyes widening and heart racing as soon as she felt the blaring lights shine down from the building. the world around them was loud, wind filling her ears along with the yells coming from behind them.

her stomach dropped, the mere amount of people after them making her panic. when thomas panted out a weak, "come on, go!" flo knew that he was on the same page. the hard part was done, but there was still a way to go.

she swallowed, turning back to the front only to be met with sammy. he slipped every few steps, feet too small to stay atop the sand, not to mention his lack of strength in regards to trying to keeping himself balanced and upright.

florence gasped, holding up a single hand while she sturdied herself with the other, and she pushed against his back. "come on, sammy," she huffed, "you got it bud, almost there."

at her hushed and tired tone, antony turned around, now a few feet ahead of them thanks to his more natural strength and whatnot. at the sight of flo and sammy both struggling, he reached down and grabbed ahold of sammy's hand. "i got you, bud," he breathed, pulling him up and towards him.

once sammy was out of her reach, flo let out a breath of relief while she focused her efforts on trying to continue climbing. she felt sweat trickle down, starting at her hairline and running over her temple. she squinted, trying to catch a glimpse of the other boys, only to receive loads of flying sand. she managed to keep her mouth shut, careful to not ingest any of the grains.

then, a hand found her shoulder.

she looked up, eyes wide in fear of the unknown, only to find antony. he'd clearly put sammy down somewhere and came back for her. she gaped once, then twice, but antony didn't let her form any thoughts. not before he did exactly what he'd done to sammy.

his hand wrapped around her wrist, careful at first, but once she began to give way to his intentions, the grip tightened and pulled her towards him.

she swallowed a gasp as she found her feet, now struggling together as wind braced them and pushed, trying to send them over the edge. "come on," he grunted, just barely audible. "come on, we got this."

by the time they reached the other side of the dune, the wind quieted down. it seemed to act as a natural barrier, allowing them to breath for a split moment.

florence dropped to a crouch, as did antony, to match the boys. they were ducked and hidden, throwing small glances over the hill to check out the progress that their wicked friends were making.

luckily, florence and antony had made it with only a split second to spare. the revving engines of motorcycles echoed soon after, men in masks with flashlights and guns now searching the same dune they'd just been stuck on.

once antony and florence were settled, thomas threw the girl a glance. she nodded, not needing much of a translation, and he grit his teeth before looking at the rest of the group. "everybody," he started, voice hushed, and he threw out a beckoning arm.

"go, go, go," he urged, and the boys instantly began to move, florence and teresa in suit. "stay low, stay low!"

without a second to spare, they rushed to get out of their enemies' sights, now taking full speed as they ran through more dunes.

florence gasped as she unexpectedly hit a downward slope, losing her balance and nearly taking a tumble before she threw out her hands and grabbed the first thing she could.

her right arm pushed roughly against sammy's shoulders, and her other hand tugged at antony's shirt. she swallowed a gasp and bit her tongue at the impact, sammy grunting as he stumbled forward.
