florence's voice cut through the chaos around them, her voice quiet amidst the tragic world. she coughed once, clearing the smoke from her lungs, then twice, and then she grabbed his face, cradling it with soft fingers. "if this is it, ant—" she tried, but he cut her off quickly.
"it isn't," antony insisted, his voice confident, but it was his face that betrayed him with its teary eyes and wrinkles of concern."it can't be."
"well," she paused, wiping a stray tear from his cheek. "if it is the end, at least i'm spending it with you."

sammy jolted awake, a sharp gasp escaping his lips as his body shot upright. his elbows locked under his weight, trembling slightly as he leaned against them, his wide-eyed gaze darting around the unfamiliar world. the sky above blazed a brilliant blue, framed by a canopy of lush green foliage swaying gently in the breeze.
he rubbed his eyes, the dancing spots in his vision slowly fading as the scene around him came into focus. where was he? how had he ended up here? what had happened?
it wasn't until his eyes traced past the towering trees, landing on the tall, gray stone walls tangled with vines, that the realization struck him. it settled deep in his chest like a stone sinking into water.
