With everything happening in the school, the library was definitely the best place to discuss anything that needed discussing.Draco closed his book with a loud thump, giving Blaise a pointed look. "We've been over this a hundred times already. If someone wanted to make sure Aria got into the tournament, it wasn't because they had her best interests at heart."
"Oh, you think?" Pansy rolled her eyes, leaning back in her chair with a huff. "They know Aria wouldn't make it."
"Thanks for the vote of confidence, Pansy," Aria muttered, glancing sideways at Draco. "Not helping."
Draco ignored her, flipping through the book again. "The first task... it could be anything. I've been reading about past Triwizard Tournaments, and they usually start with something meant to test endurance and skill. Could be magical creatures, could be some sort of physical challenge."
"Well, that narrows it down," Blaise said sarcastically, picking at a loose thread on his robes. "A physical challenge in a school of magic. Brilliant."
"We need to get ahead of this," Draco said, his voice low. "We can't just sit here waiting for the first task to surprise you. We need information. We need to know what your rivals are doing—what they've figured out."
Pansy perked up at that, her eyes narrowing with interest. "You're saying we should spy on them?"
"Not exactly," Draco replied smoothly, closing his book. "I'm saying we should keep an eye on them. Watch what they're up to, see how far they've gotten with their own research. We need every advantage we can get."
"I'm not going to spy on Potter," Aria scoffed proudly, crossing her arms.
"Oh, how noble," Blaise drawled, earning him a sharp look from the girl. "And what about the others? You've got Krum and that girl from Beauxbatons. Do you think they're playing fair?"
"Think of it like gathering intelligence."
Blaise tilted his head, considering. "It's not a bad idea. We could split up, keep tabs on them whenever we're around. If anyone gets close to figuring out the task, we'll know."
"You guys are doing too much, aren't I the one competing?" Aria leaned back, glancing at her friends with an incredulous frown.
"Shhhh!"
"Sorry." The girl muttered, nodding to the librarian.
"Any news from your family?" Pansy asked instead, turning back to her.
Aria shook her head.
She didn't understand what was taking her dad so long. She just hoped nothing happened to him, or the others.
If they didn't get here, then she'd have to compete without her ironsuit, which meant she'd actually have to depend on her own strength, which she used to be confident in, once, before her magic basically drained itself to bring her here.
