The seconds crawled by, each one dragging itself across the clock with agonizing slowness, refusing to move any faster.
Tik. Tik. Tik.
In the dimly lit room , shadows flickered against ancient stone walls, cast by the faint glow of candles set in iron sconces.
A voice as cold as the chill that permeated the room, broke the silence. "It has been done."
The second man, standing tall with an air of authority, nodded slowly "You better hope this works." He ran his long, pale fingers across the sill of the window, collecting a film of dust on their tips before rubbing them together and erasing the layer.
"It will." they continued, their voice measured, betraying no emotion. "There is no escaping it this time."
The next day at school, Aria arrived with a lightness in her step, a smile playing on her lips as she spotted Peter and her friends gathered at their usual table in the cafeteria.
She made her way over, eager to join them, but as she approached, the sound of chanting caught her attention.
"Hey, Peter—" she began, but her voice trailed off as she took in the scene unfolding before her.
"Ask her! Ask her! Ask her!" The chant echoed through the cafeteria, a mix of teasing and encouragement from nearly everyone around.
Aria's eyes flicked to the source of the commotion and immediately found Liz, who was standing nearby, looking a little flustered as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear with a shy smile. Peter stood in front of her, looking both nervous and constipated.
Aria's smile faltered, her brows knitting together as she watched. From where she stood, it was clear that some sort of set up was happening , the whole cafeteria seemingly holding its breath. Then, after the noise increased along with the pressure , Peter sighed resignedly, before finally saying,
"Do you want to go to the homecoming ball with me?"
Aria's eyebrows shot up in surprise. She pressed her lips into a tight line, feeling an odd knot form in her chest as Liz's face lit up, clearly pleased by the invitation. The entire cafeteria erupted into applause and cheers.
Aria stood there for a moment, her expression carefully neutral, before she very smoothly spun on her heel and walked away, her heart pounding a little too fast.
"Okay," she thought to herself, "maybe I need to be a bit more humble." She murmured, adjusting her grip on her bag.
Aria had spent the better part of the night running through the events of the past few weeks in her mind, piecing together subtle clues and making mental calculations. Spiderman—no, Peter Parker—had been popping up a little too often, always with some excuse to help or just happen to be around when she needed him. The way he looked at her sometimes, the awkward yet endearing attempts at conversation, and the way he'd swung her across the city without a second thought... It all seemed to add up to one thing: he might have had a crush on her.
