Chapter 14
Decisions
The dinner party was a quiet occasion with all the quests sitting properly in their seats and eating without talking. Duncan was watching Troianne stare at Becker. Daria was almost asleep in her chair, while Lord Hollingsworth and the Sheldens spoke softly about what had just happened in the library.
When the meal was over they all moved back into the library foregoing any more alcohol.
"Terrence, I wish to convey my thanks to you for helping us understand what may or may not have happened to bring Miss Shelden to us", Duncan said.
"I have yet to discover the real reason. However, as I promised I shall look into this anomaly further." Terrence answered.
Lord Love, I am sure you and Miss Shelden have much to talk about, so I will leave you two to talk and I shall take my mother up to her room to retire for the evening."
"Mr. and Mrs. Shelden, please feel free to stay the night here, I suppose that leaving your newly found daughter tonight without speaking on personal matters would not be desirable. I shall have the staff prepare the green room in the south wing for your stay."
"Terrence and Becker, I will have staff also prepare rooms in the east wing for both of you. When you are ready, just let Whiley know."
"Appreciate you generosity Earl Whitby, my wife and I should love to have a few moments to speak with our daughter."
Next Becker spoke up. "Duncan, I thank you for your kindness to me. I know that you do not understand the circumstances surrounding Troianne and my relationship. I do appreciate a chance to speak privately with her."
"Just remember Lord Love, you two do not have a relationship, and if you make one move to touch her or hurt her feelings, you will have me to deal with, one on one."
"You have my assurance Earl Whitby, I have no intention of hurting the mother of MY child."
"Oh that must of stung thought" Troianne. Duncan was such a sweet man when he was protective.
"Goodnight, Duncan, thank you for everything, Troianne said to him as he walked out the door."
After everyone had left the room, She turned to Becker who was standing close to the fireplace.
Wondering how to start this conversation that she didn't really want to have, but knew that she must, she just dug right in, "So Becker, are you surprised that our one night of passion produced a child?"
"Surprise isn't the word I would use." "Never thought it would happen for me." 'I never wanted children." "They are messy little buggers, crying and needing all the time." "I am a man that has no time for a wife or children. Time Travel is my life."
"Somehow, I am not shocked at what you are saying. When I met you that night eleven months ago, I knew you were a lone wolf, I guess that is why I slept with you. I didn't want an attachment and I figured you were the kind of guy that didn't want one either. However, I forgot the part about using protection to prevent the obvious chance that we could produce a child."
"Yes, I also take blame in the stupidity of not using protection, for that I am truly sorry."
"That is of no issue now. I have a beautiful little girl who I cherish dearly."
"I guess I should say thank you for giving her to me." "She truly is a gift from God,"
"What does she look like Troi? He asks with his head bent down in shame for not asking about the child sooner."
