Chapter 19

Terror In Her Eyes

Lord Hollingsworth had been waiting in the library for Duncan to return from the laboratory. He had been sitting there waiting for over half an hour. While he waited he started thinking about what Becker had told him before leaving on Sunday. Becker Love had mentioned that he had to leave due to a reported incident of a Follower who had been commissioned to search for the new arrival to their current time and place in England. Hollingsworth wondered if by any chance the Follower may be coming to investigate Troiannes appearance here and the fact that she had given birth to Diana here in the past. What was taking Duncan so long to return to the library he asked himself. Something made him feel uneasy so he went in search of the Duke. He headed down to the Laboratory that was located in the lower section of the house. Upon arrival he noticed the door was open and at first glance no one appeared to be in the room. That was strange, Terrence knew that Duncan guarded his laboratory very closely and would never leave the door open. He entered the room looking around, he noticed that bottles had been knocked over and contents spilled on the floor. As he rounded the large work table. He saw Duncan laying on the floor unconscious. He hurried to crouch at the Dukes side. What the hell had happened here? He asked himself, when he reached down to try and sit Duncan upright. As he did, he could smell a strong odor that he surmised was some kind of ether or chloroform. Duncan had been drugged. He shook Duncan to try and rouse him from his slumber, hard at first o get him to open his eyes, he finally noticed that Duncan was coming around. "Duncan, wake up, what has happened here?" "Come on old friend," he said lightly slapping the Dukes face. Getting a response, the Duke, looked Terrence in the eye and said. "Monsieur Garvey, he hit me and chloroformed me. He started to stand but needed help. Terrence helped him to his feet and he regained his balance. Looking around at the mess the Monsieur created, his anger bubbled up inside. "We must find the scoundrel before he does harm to someone else. Rubbing his temples from the slight headache he was experiencing he suddenly thought, "Where is Troianne? We must find her Hollingsworth she could be in danger. Monsieur Garvey showed an frightening interest in her and Diana. Come we must go see where she is."

Both men headed up to Troiannes room as fast as they could. Upon arriving at her room Duncan burst into the room to find Troianne half on the bed unconscious. Duncan lifter her into his arms and tried to wake her up. Not getting any response, he pleaded with her to wake up."Come on Darling open your eyes. Angel wake up, it is me Duncan." Worry was evident on his face. "Why is she not waking up Terrence, what the devil did Garvey do to her?" Lord Hollingsworth checked her over an he could smell the same odor that he smelled on Duncan moments ago when he had tried to rouse him. "She has been chloroformed also Duncan. He may have used too much."

"Angel, come on wake up, he said as he kissed her face and shook her roughly. Terrence walked over to the stand that held the water pitcher, he was just about to douse her with the water from the pitcher when Duncan stopped her. "What do you think your doing Hollingsworth?" "I am going to wake her up you nit-witt, put her back on the bed." Duncan did as the older man told him and watched as Terrence poured the water over her face. At first there was no response, then just as quick as that she started to sputter and choke. Opening her eyes she thought she was having a horrid dream, but noticed Duncan and Terrence with water pitcher in his hand standing over her with worried looks on their faces. "Do you two mind telling me why you thought it necessary to pour water on my face?"

"My love you have been drugged with chloroform by Monsieur Garvey. We could not wake you up and this was the only way."

"Oh my God, I remember now, that man came in here and put a cloth over my face. Why would he do this?"
