Chapter 9
Meeting Hollingsworth
While they waited for Miss Shelden to meet them. The Earl and Hollingsworth made their way to the solar.
It was a alcove basically at the top of the main staircase that boasted three very bay large windows that if one stood in them they could see a grand view of the gardens below. The windows were in a semicircular pattern with green velvet cushioned seats in every window. The seats were flanked by brocade embroidered pillows of various sizes and shapes. In the center of the alcove sat a claw footed mahogany table with four matching chairs. In the center of the table sat a low bowl of fresh flowers.
Duncan stood by one one the windows and waved a hand at Hollingsworth to have a seat at the table. Hollingworth remained standing. His nerves were evident as he paced back and forth across the ornamental rug that ran the length of the solar area.
Meanwhile in Troianne's room, the duchess arrives to tell her that she is wanted in the Solar to speak to Duncan and meet Lord Hollingsworth.
"Duchess do you have any idea what the Earl and this Mr. Hollingsworth wish to speak with me about?"
"My dear his name is LORD Hollingsworth and I really have no idea the subject on which they wish to discuss with you. However, it may be something to do with the way that you arrived here."
"Hmm yes, if he knows anything about how I got here I wish to speak with him also."
"I can't possibly go in my nightgown though."
"Sit so I may brush out your hair, I think I will pin it back a bit, would that be suitable with you my dear?"
"Oh yes, that would be fine. Thanks." Chewing her lip she looks in the mirror at herself and sees the slight dark circles under her eyes.
"My goodness I look frightful!"
"Nonsense my dear, you have just delivered a child, and I personally think you are absolutely lovely."
"You are too kind duchess."
"Daria, please call me Daria."
"Renatta is on her way up with a dress that we think may serve you for the time being."
"Thank you, Duchess I do appreciate all the help you have given me."
Renatta arrives with a dress and the Duchess helps Troianne put it on. The dress fits for the most part, it is a little long but, whoever owned it before had ample breasts and since Troianne's breast size had increased since her milk came in it was perfect. She liked the color of the dress, it was a deep plum color with black lace adorning the half bell sleeves and neckline. As she looked down she realized she had no shoes on, she went looking around the bed for her black slipons.
"Miss what are you looking for? asked Renatta."
"My shoes she replied."
"They are in the wardrobe Miss."
"Oh thank you Renatta," she said as she fetched her shoes.
"Ok I think I am ready."
"Very well my dear, I will walk you to the solar," said the duchess.
"Renatta can you please stay with Diana while I am gone?"
"Most certainly Miss, I shall enjoy sitting with this sweet little angel," she said as she reached into the cradle to gently run her hand over the baby's scalp.
As the ladies arrived in the solar Duncan noticed how very beautiful Troianne actually was. The dress she wore complimented a most curvaceous figure. One could not tell from this angle that she had just delivered a child less than 26 hours ago.
