During the weeks before Nerivie fell ill, she had been browsing through the books. Sometimes, when she wasn't sure, what she wanted, or felt like reading, she was walking through the libaries of every city or town she visited. Just to learn something about the area.
Maybe there was a secret.
Perhaps an interesting story, or historical fact.
Probably even a heartwarming story. This was how she learnt about the gods of the mountains while she was in Halzen, even the book seemed to have had a further travel than she did: The mountains they were talking about was on an entire different continent, one absolutly unknown to her. And looking that finding up, it was made clear to her that she would very likely never be able to see that place of the world.
At least not without abandoning her goal to travel every corner of Eriyash, or becoming immortal if she still did like she planned to.
And so, like always when she just soaked in the feeling of being surrounded with wisdom being gathered and hoarded over centuries, she came across something interesting.
It was a map.
Well, it was a book about a map, but conviniently, it did contain said map, explaination and interesting information about the area. Or rather, how the area used to be, about 400 years ago, when it was part of a totally different kingdom. It seems, this small kingdom that this oasis currently is a central part of, used to belong to a way larger kingdom, that even bordered to a part of a sea, stretching further into the center of the continent. There were descriptions of cities, unknown to her, and most likely forgotten in time, surely wort a visit. But more likely these would have been buried under the sand, and if not, guarded by hungry creatures.
Until the description of something she could not make any sense of caught her attention: a sacred spring? An abandoned mine? A get away of the king who once ruled this area of the vanished kingdom?
They always use some kind of magic to seal these places. Nerivie thought. And that magic leaks into the area if the place is abandoned, like water cracks through stone once the vessel isn't maintained anymore.
This would mean a number of things: probable treasures like being able to see things nobody else has seen for a very long time, and some rather interesting monsters, summed by the magic.
It also meant surprises, and a little bit of practice for Lunaris to get comfortable with his magic. He must be itching to try some of the spells out he learnt.
Unfortunatly, she never made it to the area, as her fever has stuck her down, and kept her in this state for a long time. Nerivie shivered at the thought how sudden it happened, and how it felt. In between all of this mess, she felt the moment when she knew she was about to die.
Like everytime it happened, she was scared to die.
Fever does do a lot of damage to a body, especially when it would go down for a prolong period of time. She always had luck, a gracious star of luck, that helped somehow to get her better. But with the external heat, in the few moments of clarity she had, she knew, she would die, boiling up from the inside.
But maybe, it was just her barely concious brain, feeling incredibly weak, that pushed that idea onto her, between the feverish hallucinations and dreams.
And so, after she finally was concious enough, she remembered that odd place she had read about.
I can't die she kept thinking, while during the time she was still too weak to hold a spoon, not until I saw every corner of the world, and remember the ones forgotten about. And certainly not until he knows how great this world really is!
And so, as soon as she was capable of standing, and walking, and as soon as she magical power was back to its original state, she got herself ready for adventure: „Let's explore a nearby dungeon!" she said, excited, when Lunaris was still trying to regain a sense of when, where and what after waking up from sleep.
