The hissing and spitting of the roaring water, the spray, the current and the thunder of the flood left an unpleasant feeling of fear that seemed to have long since been erased from people's memories. It felt like the boisterous yelling of orders, of demands and the running back and forth between two points would grand them power, control, a regaining of the confidence humankind was used to. But, alas, it only added to the deep-rooted anxiety that had taken control over the numerous people on top of the high, strong wall.
Nervie didn't know if she was supposed to fire a salve against the giant Sandnatter, a snake in the colour of sand, with a beautiful pattern on it's back, or if she should try and save the desperate animal from certain death.
How do you even get a four to five meter long and probably 200 kilo weighing reptile out of the hissing water? Would the venomous, large fanged animal understand you were trying to help it? She thought, before she decided to have mercy with the poor thing and yelled for some additional hands and a rope.
The soldiers were surprised to be „invited" to help an animal that would snack on them any other times, but they have been heavier findings in the waters today, and they will be more during the following week. A big ass, venemous snake would just become one of these tales they are going to proudly tell in every bar of the city.
From the corner of her eye, Nerivie saw Lunaris running back and forth, protecting himself from the rain with the hood of his cloak over his head, healing exhaustion and forcing others to take longer breaks. Some left the wall for a while, returning with new, dry equipment to once again guarantee the safety of the wall. A lot of architects and builders examined the strength of the wall inch by inch, made improvements where necessary, working from top to bottom, from right to left. Only to start all over again at the end.
Piece by piece by piece.
Lunaris dodged away when the big snake was pulled on the wall, and wriggled around, in panic, before somebody opened an empty room. This room must've looked like a safe cave from the perspective of the giant, as she hastly slithered away through the open door, in to a calmer environment. Just for good measure, they marked the room with a cross- nobody wanted to share a room with a Sandnatter the size of a good sized tree.
„A Fairy-Eared Hedgehog!" somebody yelled, and nerivie ran to the call. The creature was as big as a cow, but a cow with a lot of spikes. The poor thing must've made the mistake of staying in the way of the gurgling waters when it heard its roaring. Now, it desperatly paddled, and tried to get hold of something, anything to get to safety. Its short legs didn't give him any fighting change against the roaring waters, and it was only thanks to the other magician with the affiliation to water they caught it on time and pulled it to safety.
Nerivie wouldn't have been able to catch the water surrounding the very cute prickly animal. First of all, her affiliation was fire, and the water spell she was able to use only could hold onto a limited amount of water. Far less than the other magician could gather. and secondly, while she was quite accurate with her own affiliated magic element, her accuracy and dexterity with an element foreign to her left much to be desired. Her reaction could have never been as quick as she was with fire.
„Thank you in the name of hedgie!" she yelled to her comrade, and he nodded, „You're here for the not so kind versions, right?" he then asked.
„Yeah, mine is fire! I am the defense line." She smiled and the other magician raised his eyebrows: „Fire? Can you...can you dry clothing? I am wet to my skin and actually really cold!"
Nerivie perked up: „Sure! That was one of my first spells." She chuckled.
„It was? I thought a big fireball or something like that! I know mine would." He responded grinning.
„On Farun where I am from? You're always wet. What use is burning down a forest and then go home soaked!" Nerivie smiled and raised her hands, while her colleage just raised his arms to a T-Pose and stood still.
„Oh, Farun? That is quite far! I am actually from Izludia!"
Nerivie mumbled a spell and the clothing of the water magician started to leak of steam. It took a few moments, until he felt dry again. He moved around and then sighed in relief: „I should definitly use my water protection spells more often..." he mumbled, „My name is Corsa!"
„I am Nerivie. That always running light magician over there is Lunaris, he and I travel together. Please don't hurt yourself too badly, he is still learning his craft."
„Nice to meet you Nerivie! Where are you going next?" Corsa asked against the heavy rain.
„I think east. I want to see every corner of this world. But the world is a big place, so, I am happy with the continent."
„Well, then, you should take the north eastern route through Concordia, then move torwards south using the southern border trading route, until Tera. From there, it's a like three days travel to the beach. If you take a boat, you can visit the small island state of Maleriva." Corsa smiled.
„It sounds like you have been there already."
„Yeah, it's warm throughout the year, but it's missing the burning to death element!" he chuckled. „Do you have any suggestions for me?"
„Yeah, from here, you just go west. I have a bad orientation, so don't ask me, but you should go to Rias. It's a city on the trade network. From Rias, you follow North, torwards Valaeris, then head west to Hoegel, make sure to only go further during the summer months, and equip yourself for climbing. The serpentine path will bring you up the mountain, and I suggest to take it REALLY slow, because the air can get quite thin. When you think you're over the clouds, you'll see Yuno. You should stay there a few months, because getting down will take some months again and being stuck in mountain weather is dangerous. At the foot of the mountain, there is Frisia. Most roads from there will lead you to the capital of the Kingdom of Doma, Yur. From there, you can go in all direction, but whatever you see, you'll end up in Yur again."
She chuckled, „But, from there, go to Geven first! It's a city at a chalk coast line, and has a rough sea."
„Will do! Thanks for the travel tip!" Corsa grinned, and then shook himself off the rain, „Damn, I got wet again! Would you please...Again?"
„Of course!" Nerivie smiled, and repeated the drying process. „I enchanted your clothing. The spell should keep you dry until tomorrow!"
„Thank you very much, I appreciate it!" He looked over the gurgling, spitting sea of a flood, „Though I wonder if I will be able to reach Rias through the desert, looking at this beast." Corsa spoke his thought out loud.
„Lunaris and I, we will wait for the first merchants to enter the city and ask them for their travel routes. I suggest to do the same. Maybe you'll find some you can travel with!"
„That's a great advice! Thanks again!" he jumped a bit, as if he was testing if his clothes would really stay dry. „Well, let's go back to work! I think the break was long enough." He grinned and Nerivie.
„Please keep being kinds to animals like before!" she smiled, and Corsa gave her a smirking thumbs up.
