OLIVER TROUGHTON paces nervously, adjusting his suit. As the music is on a stereo in the room, the room is a mix of excitement and anxiety. A knock at the door breaks his concentration.
JULIA TROUGHTON (O.S.)
Oliver, darling? Are you decent?
OLIVER TROUGHTON
(taking a deep breath)
Come in, Ma.
JULIA TROUGHTON elegant and poised, enters. She's dressed in a stunning outfit that speaks of both pride and a hint of melancholy.
JULIA TROUGHTON
Well, how does your old mum scrub up?
OLIVER TROUGHTON
(genuinely impressed)
You look incredible, Mom. Absolutely radiant.
JULIA TROUGHTON
(smiling, then becoming practical)
I've brought Luther's tie collection. Freshly washed, of course.
She holds up a box, a mix of emotions crossing her face at the mention of her incarcerated husband.
OLIVER TROUGHTON
(grateful, but with a touch of humour)
Thanks, Mom. I need a change. This one makes me look like I'm about to give a kid their first vaccination.
As Julia helps Oliver with a new tie, there's a moment of comfortable silence, both lost in thought.
OLIVER TROUGHTON (CONT'D)
(softly)
I never thought I'd see this day, you know? I thought my race was run on this street when i was in court when they dissected my life.
JULIA TROUGHTON
(cupping his face)
You've surpassed every expectation, my boy. Today, just remember: have fun, be kind, and stay true to yourself.
OLIVER TROUGHTON
(fighting emotion)
God, I love you, Mom. Always remember that.
JULIA TROUGHTON
(embracing him)
And I love you so much, my brave, wonderful son.
They hold the embrace, both aware of the significance of the moment.
JULIA TROUGHTON (CONT'D)
(lightening the mood)
Now, let's go give them a show. It's time to get you hitched to that lovely Kathy. From the borough of Wimbledon to the heart of a Scarborough family, you're making moves.
OLIVER TROUGHTON:
(Smiling)
World Domination one county at a time.
They both Chuckle, Oliver takes a final look in the mirror, adjusts his tie, and nods. They share a smile before heading out, ready to face the day's excitement.
