Chapter - 28

Nikhil's sleep broke with the continuous ringing of the alarm, he had set to wake up Shreya, which was showing 3:30 a.m. in the morning. Today is Karwa chauth, their first festival after marriage. After turning off the alarm, he woke her up so that she could get ready on time as instructed clearly by his wife.

Shreya was getting ready to start her day. It was a special day for her as it her first Karwa chauth, which she had kept for Nikhil for his well being and long life. This is the first festival which she's going to celebrate with her in-laws as a married woman.

She was wearing a red Shara suit given by Reena. She had let her wet hair open. Then wore her earrings and put a bindi on the centre of her forehead and applied sindoor. She just had her nuptial chain and red chooda ( red bangles) in her hand as her jewellery.

All this time, Nikhil was leaning against the dressing room door, and adorning her making her shy under his strong gaze.

" Beautiful!" Nikhil murmured.

After getting ready she came downstairs and saw Reena already present there.

" Good morning Mom."

" Good morning, beta. Just wait a little, Amit is coming in a few minutes."

" Dad? He also keeps fast for you?" Shreya asked excitedly.

" Yes, ever since we got married."

" Wow! Dad is really awesome."

" Hearing my daughter praising me early in the morning, is enough to make my day." Both the ladies turned hearing Amit's voice.

" Morning, Dad"

" Good morning, my child." Amit said patting her head.

You know, every year papa is also forced to keep fast for Mumma. I hope that's not the case with you." Shreya asked Amit wiggling her eyebrows.

" We'll regarding that your papa and me are same." Amit replied only to receive a glare from Reena.

" I'm feeling jealous. Both, mumma and mom are so lucky, they also have someone who keeps fast for them." Shreya said referring to Aruna and Reena making a small pout.

" Not only them, but you are also lucky." Shreya turned quickly hearing the voice and saw Nikhil coming down wearing a peach kurta and sat beside her.

" Nikhil? I thought you slept again?"

"I don't have this much energy to remain hungry till evening."

" You.. hungry..but why?" Shreya asked all confused.

" Because not only you but I am also keeping this fast for you, my dear wifey." Nikhil replied making Shreya blush.

" Aww...bhai, I'm so proud of you." Vikram said sitting.

" You are also keeping fast for someone?" Shreya inquired.

" Ahh...no one, I'm here for food." Vikram replied.

"Okay, now all of you sit quietly and let me serve sargi to Shreya." Reena said putting an end to their talks.

Reena then gave Shreya her sargi which had fruits, dry fruits, mathri, kheer, some other sweets, and many more items, blessing her for a happy and joyful marriage.

( 'Sargi' is a pre-dawn meal prepared by a mother-in-law. It consists of five to seven types of dishes, clothes and ornaments are also kept in it. Also, other items of adornment such as bangles, bindi, and mehndi are placed on the plate.)

Reena goes and sits on the right side of Amit who is sitting on the head chair with Shreya on his left side. Nikhil was sitting beside Shreya and Vikram beside Reena.
