Travis' POV
Taylor was dying.
We both knew that. We weren't stupid. The bullet hadn't hit her heart but the blood wasn't slowing, and she only had so much. I could already see signs that she was drifting off, but I just pressed my hand against the bullet wound harder.
"Come on Tiger, don't give up on me now." I said through gritted teeth into her ear.
"I'm trying." She mumbled. "Kind of got a bullet in me right now."
God, even bleeding out she was making jokes and being all sarcastic. Somehow, I'd never lover her more in my life, and I just couldn't let this be the end of our love story. It was fucked up on so many levels, but this would not be the end. Taylor would not be dying here. Even if I had to give up my own life for her, she'd be walking out of here alive.
"Don't make that face." Taylor mumbled, and I looked down to see her gazing up at me, eyes bloodshot and scared, but determined.
"What face Tiger?" I murmured.
"That face." She reached up with one blood stained hand and touched my cheek. "That face that says you think I'm going to die. That's not going to help."
"You're not going to die." I placed my hand on top of hers. "I'm just scared Tiger, I'm so fucking scared of losing you."
"I know." Taylor pressed her forehead against mine, letting out a sigh. "I love you Travis, I really do."
"I know Tiger, I love you too." I whispered back.
Then we were broken apart by a loud chuckle, sarcastic and mocking. I looked up to see Austin laughing at us, leaning against the door with his gun dangling from his hand. He seemed to find our interaction absolutely hilarious, and I glared at him.
"You two are so cute." He said scornfully. "Very Romeo and Juliet. It's such a shame you're both going to die and leave your little daughter with no parents."
"Fuck you Austin." Taylor snapped, and then she winced.
"Shh, shh, careful." I breathed in her ear. "Be careful Tiger."
"Oh shut the fuck up I know I'm bleeding out." Taylor huffed at me, her head slumping down against my chest. "Don't pretend like everything's going to be okay. I'm not a fucking doctor but I know when it's a lost cause."
"See, even she knows is." Austin chuckled.
"Oh shut the fuck up!" Both Taylor and I snapped at the same time, both of us turning our heads to glare at her brother. He blinked in surprise, going a little red, and I looked away, back to the girl clinging to me.
Taylor's eyes lifted upwards, meeting mine, and I could see how scared she was. She wanted to be Alison, strong, fearless, but I knew she was terrified. I wasn't an idiot any more than she was. This was really bad. This might turn into that shitty scene in a movie where the lovers held each other on a bloody battlefield, one of them bleeding out, the other holding their dead body long after their final breath.
Whoever was writing our story was a fucking asshole. Like come on, give us a break.
"Don't let me go Travis." Taylor whispered, her bloody hands clutching my shirt. "I'm scared."
"I know you are Tiger, but I've got you." I held her close. "You'll be okay."
I was only saying it to reassure her, and I knew Taylor picked up on that, but we both clung to the lie like a lifeline. I didn't know what to do to save her. If only I could give her my life. But shit didn't work like that.
