You and Nanami were deep in the throes of a mission, tracking down a curse that had been causing havoc in the area.
You moved with precision, your teamwork seamless. Nanami, ever methodical, struck the curse with his weapon, but the creature slithered away, wounded but not dead.
"I'll finish it," Nanami said, starting to run after the curse.
But before he could move even further, you suddenly stopped in your tracks, clutching your stomach. Your hand flew to your mouth, and you almost gagged.
Nanami noticed immediately, pausing to look back at you. "Y/N, are you alright?"
You swallowed hard, trying to push down the rising nausea. "Y-yeah, I'm fine." You waved him off with a weak smile, but your face was paler than usual, and you were clearly struggling.
Nanami's gaze lingered on you for a moment, assessing, but you straightened up and forced yourself to focus.
"Go after it, I'll catch up," you said, steadying your breath.
Nanami nodded, though his eyes remained skeptical. "Don't push yourself."
You shook your head, determined. "I'm fine."
With that, you continued after the curse, managing to finally corner and kill it with your combined efforts.
However, as you stood over the now-dissipating curse, you felt another wave of nausea, but you gritted your teeth and pushed it aside, refusing to let it affect you.
. . .
After wrapping up the mission, you decided to take a quick break. Nanami led you to a nearby bakery, one of his favorites. The rich scent of freshly baked bread wafted out as you neared the shop.
You hesitated at the door, your face scrunching up at the overwhelming smell. Nanami stepped inside, glancing back when he noticed you didn't follow him in.
"You're not coming in?" Nanami asked, raising an eyebrow.
You shook your head quickly, your hand hovering near your mouth again. "Uh, no. The smell's just... getting to me a little."
Nanami looked at you curiously but didn't push further. "I'll be quick," he said, and disappeared inside the bakery.
When he emerged a few minutes later with a bag of fresh bread, the two of you continued walking down the street.
You were trying to shake off the weird feeling in your stomach, determined to focus on the mission's aftermath.
"You like that bread place, huh?" You asked, glancing at Nanami as you walked.
"Mhm," Nanami grunted, taking a bite from the loaf. "It's simple and efficient. No unnecessary flourishes."
