The Masks We Wear

People aren’t as happy as they seem,
Their smiles, just shadows of broken dreams.
Behind the laughter, there’s a quiet cry,
Behind bright eyes, the pain they deny.

You see them laughing, you see them glow,
But you don’t see the cracks below.
The weight they carry, the silent grief,
The moments where hope feels so brief.

They show you the best, the polished parts,
But hide the fractures in their hearts.
Because it’s easier to wear the mask,
Than to let someone see and ask.

Behind every grin, there’s a story untold,
A heart that’s grown weary, a soul gone cold.
They’ve mastered the art of looking okay,
While drowning in thoughts they can’t keep at bay.

People aren’t as happy as they seem,
They’re trapped in a never-ending dream,
A loop of pretending, of holding it in,
Of showing the world a face that’s thin.

So when you see them laughing, just know inside,
There’s a part of them wishing they didn’t have to hide.
People aren’t as happy as they appear,
Their brightest smiles often hide the deepest fear.
