Let My Animal See My Dead Body

If I die while I have a pet,
Let them see my stillness, let them not forget.
Let them witness my absence, the coldness of fate,
So they’ll know I’m not coming back,
and won’t wait.

Let them grasp that death is a cruel, heavy truth,
Not just whispers of shadows or echoes of youth.
Let them see me lifeless,
in the silence of night,
so they can mourn in their way,
with all of their might.

Don’t let them think I abandoned their heart,
That I chose to vanish, to tear us apart.
In their eyes, they’ll search for me,
pacing, confused,
wondering why I vanished,
feeling utterly used.

They deserve to know love was fierce and unbound,
That I didn’t leave by choice,
but by fate’s cruel sound.
So let them see the truth of my final goodbye,
As they witness my stillness,
and release their own cry.

Let my animal see my dead body,
let them mourn, let them grieve,
for in that moment of clarity,
they’ll know it’s not deceit.
They won’t be haunted by what they can’t find,
But remember our bond,
the love intertwined.

So please, grant them this one last gift,
Let them know I’ve not gone on some selfish drift.
For in that final moment,
they’ll understand the loss,
and together we’ll share
in the weight of the cost.
