•INDIANA•
The warehouse was located in an area near the Mexican border. It consisted of three huge buildings joined together: one lay horizontally in the center, while the other two were connected vertically on either side.
I stepped out of the car and curiously looked around, taking in everything outside. Lee and the girls headed in first, while their men dispersed to stand guard around the warehouse.
I followed Lee and the others inside. The guard standing by the door punched in a code and opened it for us to walk in.
I couldn't see what the code was, but that's something I'd have to figure out another day. Right now, I needed to focus on finding out what they actually do in this place.
The first thing I noticed upon entering the warehouse was the smell of gunpowder. The hallway from the front entrance was dark, with barely any light, but soon we entered another room.
This room was much bigger and wider. Men and women stood by long rows of tables, sorting various weapons. Firearms, combat weapons, explosives, and even chemical weaponry were scattered across the tables.
They were carefully sorting and assembling everything. My throat went dry at the sight in front of me.
So, this is the real shipment they ordered from Romania. That's where the crime family that formed the Valahia Syndicate originated, so I'm sure there's another gang in Romania handling these illegal goods shipments to the US.
I'll have Keith and the FBI look into that.
Lee began walking around, inspecting the workers' progress. Katarina followed, moving to the other side, picking up a shuriken with delight in her eyes.
Alexa stayed beside me, glued to her phone, popping her gum loudly.
"What is this place?" I asked her, faking excitement while surveying the room.
"This?" She followed my gaze. "We call it the Echo Chamber, our main warehouse where we store all our important goods shipped from all over the world. We sort through the supplies for a few days before distributing them to some of the elite black markets, where a long list of buyers is waiting."
Every word she said processed quickly in my mind. Arms smuggling. Interesting.
I strolled toward where the workers were sorting the weapons. They glanced at me curiously, and I smiled as I walked by.
"Found anything that interests you?" Lee asked as he joined me.
"I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that."
He chuckled. "A tough girl like you must have a taste for weapons, right? You carry a Glock 26. Is that the only thing you like?"
I smirked, picking up a dagger from the table. The light glinted off the sharp blade, and I caught my reflection in it.
"I like this too," I replied, turning to face him.
I stepped closer, holding the blade near his face, just below his chin.
"I just love seeing these little things dipped in red."
His expression turned serious as I trailed the tip of the blade down a vein in his neck. His Adam's apple bobbed nervously.
"Do you agree?" I asked in a calm tone, placing the dagger back on the table. I swear I heard him release his breath as I turned away, almost making me smile.
"Yeah, they're good, but you've got to be careful," he said.
"I'm always careful."
Our eyes met, and he briefly glanced at my lips before the moment was interrupted by Katarina calling out from the doorway.
