The next morning, I decided to head over to the main house. My curiosity was eating at me—I needed to know what Dominik and the others were up to, and more importantly, I hoped to get a name.
I needed to find out who the spy they'd caught was. The weight of it had been pressing on me since last night, and the longer I waited, the heavier it became.
When I arrived, the house was eerily quiet. Too quiet. Usually, there'd be people moving around, voices echoing from one room to another, but today it was as if the place was holding its breath.
I frowned, my footsteps soft as I walked deeper inside.
I headed down the long hallway that led to another wing of the mansion, where the inner circle usually spent their time. My shoes tapped lightly against the marble floors, the sound echoing faintly around me.
But before I could make it out of the hallway, a hand grabbed mine, yanking me sharply to the right.
I gasped, my instincts flaring to life as I twisted, ready to fight back. My back slammed against a solid wooden door, and before I could scream, a rough, warm hand clamped over my mouth.
My heart thundered in my chest, adrenaline spiking through my veins.
But then I saw him.
Dominik.
He stood so close, his sharp features cast in shadow from the dim light filtering through the curtains. His smirk was unmistakable, lazy and full of mischief, as if this was all some kind of game to him.
Slowly, he moved his hand away from my mouth.
I exhaled a shaky breath, glaring at him.
"Jesus, you scared the fuck out of me, Dom."
His smile deepened, and he reached out to tuck a strand of my hair behind my ear. The casual, gentle gesture only added to my annoyance.
"Sorry, mitrava," he murmured, his voice smooth and soft in that teasing way of his. "I couldn't help myself."
I rolled my eyes, still trying to steady my pulse.
"What are you even doing alone in here?"
I glanced around the room, noticing it was empty except for some scattered furniture and covered-up windows.
Dominik sighed, his shoulders relaxing as he leaned back against the door.
"Escaping."
"Escaping?" I raised an eyebrow.
He ran a hand through his hair, his lips curling into an exasperated smirk.
"Lee has been on my head since this morning. It's stressing me out."
I bit back a laugh. "So, you're hiding?"
Dominik shrugged, completely unbothered.
"Yeah. Kind of."
I shook my head at him, amused. Only Dominik would escape to a random, empty room to avoid work. But just as I was about to bring up the spy, my lips parting to form the question, he moved.
Before I knew what was happening, his hands were on me—his palms bracing my waist as he leaned in and pressed his lips to mine. The kiss caught me off guard, but any surprise melted away almost instantly.
It was like something in me sighed in relief, like this was what I had been waiting for all day. My hands found their way to his chest as I kissed him back, the warmth of his body seeping into mine.
