INDIANA

Chaos erupted in the room as Dominik slammed his head back into Viktor's face, the sharp crack of bone echoing in the tense air. Viktor stumbled backward, blood spurting from his nose, but Dominik was relentless.

Using Viktor's arm holding the dagger, he twisted it with brutal precision, plunging it into the nearest man who lunged at him.

In one fluid motion, Dominik ripped the blade free and hurled it at another, the blade embedding itself into the second man's chest.

The fight was savage, Dominik moving with the speed and precision of a predator. He weaved between attacks, landing blows and taking out one man after another.

His fists, feet, and sheer force became deadly weapons as he dismantled Viktor's men, their bodies hitting the floor one by one. His movements were swift, almost otherworldly, like a blur of destruction in the dimly lit room.

Amid the chaos, Hailey suddenly convulsed in my arms again. My heart dropped as her body jerked violently.

"Hailey! Stay with me!" I cried, pulling her up as best as I could. With her limp frame leaning against me, I half-dragged her toward the door, desperate to get us out.

Gunfire erupted behind me, loud and jarring. I screamed, ducking down with Hailey in my arms as bullets ricocheted off the walls.

My eyes darted back to see Dominik and Viktor locked in a deadly struggle, both fighting for control of the gun.

"Come on, Hailey," I whispered frantically, pushing us toward the door.

When we reached it, my stomach sank—it was locked, secured by a glowing keypad on the wall. My fingers fumbled over the numbers as I punched random codes, the beeping taunting me with each failed attempt.

"Damn it!" I screamed, slamming my fist against the keypad.

To my surprise, the screen shattered, sparks flying as the room was plunged into silence.

I crouched down, pulling Hailey close to my chest. Her breathing was shallow, but she made soft, incoherent noises that gave me hope.

"You're going to be okay," I whispered, stroking her hair. "We're going to get out of here."

A sudden mechanical whirring broke the stillness. The metal covers over the windows began to slide open, letting beams of sunlight flood into the room.

The light illuminated the wreckage—bodies sprawled on the floor, shattered furniture, and blood smeared across surfaces.

Dominik appeared in front of me, his face bruised and bloodied but alive. He reached down, helping me and Hailey to stand. Relief washed over me at the sight of him, my grip tightening around Hailey.

But my relief was short-lived. A sharp gasp escaped me as I noticed Viktor at the back of the room, his hand steady as he raised a gun aimed directly at us.

"Watch out!" I screamed, shoving Dominik to the side just as the gun fired.

The bullet tore through my arm, the searing pain bursting through me like fire. I cried out, collapsing against the wall as blood trickled down my arm.

Dominik spun around, his gun already in hand, and unleashed a hail of bullets at Viktor. Each shot found its mark, the impacts jerking Viktor's body backward until he collapsed lifelessly onto the blood-soaked floor.

The silence that followed was deafening. I clutched my arm, pain radiating through my body as I slumped down, my breathing shallow. Dominik rushed to me, his face etched with worry as he knelt beside me.

"You're okay baby," he said firmly, pressing his hand over my wound to stop the bleeding. "You're okay, I got you."

I nodded weakly, my gaze shifting to Hailey, who was still leaning against the wall, her chest rising and falling faintly.

Viktor and his men were gone. We were alive—for now—but the cost was etched into my very soul.

Dominik's hand was firm around my waist as he helped me stand, his eyes scanning my face with an intensity that made my chest tighten.

His fingers brushed my arm gently where the blood still trickled down, but there was no time to dwell on it. We had to move.

Without a word, he crossed the room in a flash, scooping Hailey up into his arms with ease. She was unconscious but still breathing, her body limp in his hold.

He glanced back at me, his face etched with worry, as if he needed confirmation that I was okay. I nodded weakly, forcing a smile despite the pain in my arm.

"I'm okay," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Dominik's eyes softened, but there was no time for more words. Together, we hurried out of the house. The metal doors had finally opened, and sunlight streamed in like a beacon.

We didn't stop to think, just moved forward, toward the nearest car—one of Viktor's men must've owned it, but it didn't matter now.

I sat in the backseat, Hailey's head cradled in my lap. My heart was hammering, and the weight of everything pressing down on me was unbearable. Hailey was alive, but her life was still in danger.

And as I looked down at my own arm, I couldn't help but feel the sting of my wound. It wasn't deep, just a graze, but it still burned with an ache that felt like a reminder of how close we'd come to losing everything.

Thank god it hadn't hit me anywhere near my stomach. If it had... I didn't even want to think about it.

Dominik jumped into the driver's seat, his movements smooth and purposeful, as though he was still in control despite everything.

My eyes met his in the rearview mirror, and I caught the look in his eyes—his jaw was tight, his expression unreadable, but I could see the same storm swirling behind his gaze that I felt in my own chest.

"Drive straight to the hospital," I said, my voice trembling despite my best efforts to sound calm.

Dominik's eyes didn't waver as he kept his focus on the road.

"No."

I frowned, confused. "Why not?"

He didn't respond immediately, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly as he maneuvered the car down the deserted road. Finally, he spoke, his voice low but firm.

"The drug Viktor gave Hailey..." He paused, his eyes flicking to the rearview mirror to meet mine again. "It's probably home-brewed—something the hospital don't have a cure for. But Dr. Kendrick will know what to do."

His gaze held mine through the mirror, steady and unwavering.

"Trust me."

I nodded, feeling a knot form in my stomach.

"Okay. Just... just hurry please."

I couldn't hold back the tears anymore. As I stroked Hailey's face, I fought to keep my composure, but my breath hitched with each passing second. Her face was pale, her lips slightly parted, and I had no idea how much time we had left.

Was it already too late to save her?

I pressed my fingertips to her cold skin, desperate to feel some sign that she was still hanging on.

"Please, Hailey," I whispered, my voice breaking. "Please, hang on. We're almost there."

Dominik's foot pressed harder on the gas, the car picking up speed as the road blurred around us. The tension was palpable, but I couldn't tear my eyes away from Hailey's fragile form in my lap. I just had to believe we could save her.

That we would make it in time.
