They didn't let me return home, so for the first time, I spent the night at the main house. I couldn't sleep at all and kept tossing and turning every minute. My mind was racing, and I just couldn't stop thinking about a lot of things.
One of those things, for example, was the shooter from last night. I had no idea where he came from, but one thing was certain: he was there to kill Dominik. I almost got caught in the crossfire, so thank God I fled in time.
Otherwise, I would've been dead, and this whole mission would have gone to waste. That's something I fear almost every day.
I've earned myself a pretty good reputation with my own blood and sweat, so if I were to die unexpectedly, it should happen with style.
I also don't know what Dominik and Lee were doing there that night, but thank God they weren't following me. They must have been there for business. I guess some rat must've caught wind of their plans and decided to ambush them.
The following day went by pretty smoothly, but things were a little tense because of what was happening tonight: the auction. Dominik must have laid out some kind of plan, which got everyone running around the house in organized chaos.
It was pretty clear they weren't giving me a chance to leave the house, so I didn't bother asking if I could. I'd probably risk getting on their bad side, and I've already done that over the past few days.
I learned my lesson the hard way.
Night fell, and I watched as the inner members appeared one by one in the living room area, all cleaned up in their cocktail dresses and suits.
I was sitting alone on the couch, staring idly at the chandelier hanging over my head, when I heard the girls walk in—the clicking of their heels echoing through the halls.
Alexa was wearing a vibrant red, off-the-shoulder, elegant mini dress. The neckline showcased her collarbone and shoulders beautifully, while the A-line silhouette flattered her figure, adding a touch of sophistication.
I couldn't help but smile as she twirled flirtatiously in front of me.
"You like?"
"Yeah, you look absolutely gorgeous," I replied sincerely.
"Thanks, love," she said with a grin.
Just then, Katarina walked in. Her dress was a sleek black number that clung to her figure like it was tailored for her body alone. The halter neckline was high, drawing attention to her shoulders and leaving her back bare in a way that was both elegant and daring.
The material hugged her curves all the way down to the floor, where it flared out slightly, giving her an effortlessly dramatic silhouette.
Her hair was pulled back into a neat bun that sat low on her head, not a single strand out of place. It gave her an air of polished sophistication, like she didn't have to try too hard to look this good. And her makeup? Sharp and simple.
Her skin was flawless, glowing in all the right places, with a subtle contour that enhanced her cheekbones. A dark, smoky eye brought intensity to her gaze, balanced out by a nude lip that kept the look understated but striking.
Everything about her screamed effortless confidence, like she walked straight out of a movie scene and into real life. I hate to admit it, I kinda envy the way she looked tonight.
But I hate it even more that the self consciousness she triggered within me got me feeling sick to my stomach.
Lee and Dominik followed about a minute later, both wearing sharp and elegant black suits. It was my first time seeing Lee in one, and I'm not gonna lie—he looked really good, especially with his hair slicked back into a man bun and everything.
