INDIANA

Sofia Andrea Elisabeta Vitale.

Her name was a legacy, a tribute to the incredible women who shaped both our lives—Dominik's mother, his grandmother, and my own. All generations wrapped into one name, passed down to our little miracle.

My delivery had been smooth, with no complications—a miracle I whispered my gratitude for every night. And from the very moment I brought our little girl into the world, Dominik hadn't left her side.

Not once.

He was there through every cry, every diaper change, and every yawn, as though she were the only thing that mattered in the universe.

Today was the day we were finally being discharged from the private hospital, and I couldn't wait to take her home. I was on the bed, folding my clothes into the suitcase while sneaking glances at my husband by the window.

Dominik stood there, bathed in the soft afternoon sunlight streaming through the glass, holding Sofia delicately in his arms as if she were made of porcelain.

I couldn't help but stop folding and just stare.

The way he looked at her—it was as though the world had stopped. His attention was wholly fixed on her, his lips curved into the softest smile, his eyes filled with love so pure it brought tears to mine.

I felt an ache of happiness, the kind that settled deep in your chest, warm and reassuring. For so long, I had dreamed of moments like this, of creating a family with him, and now it was real.

I didn't want to break the spell, but I couldn't resist. I walked over to them, my footsteps light on the cold floor.

Dominik finally lifted his gaze when I reached his side, his mismatched green eyes meeting mine before his expression softened further. He turned slightly, angling Sofia so I could get closer to her.

I reached out and gently caressed her cheek with the tip of my finger. Her tiny face was so soft, her nose—a perfect replica of mine. But it was her eyes that held my attention the most.

"They're so green," I whispered, smiling through the warmth blooming in my chest.

Dominik tilted his head, his smile broadening.

"She got my eyes," he murmured, his voice a mixture of pride and wonder.

"Mmhmm," I agreed, still marveling at Sofia's wide, curious gaze. "But she got the green ones instead. I love that. The first thing I ever fell in love with about you."

Dominik chuckled, leaning down to press a kiss to my temple.

"Then it's only right she has them."

I could feel the tears prickling at the corners of my eyes again, but they were tears of joy. Sofia was a perfect blend of the two of us, a symbol of everything we'd been through and everything we'd built together.

"She's perfect," I whispered, pressing a kiss to Sofia's forehead.

Dominik's arm came around me, holding us both close.

"She is. Just like her mother."

In that moment, everything else in the world ceased to exist. It was just us, our little family, bathed in sunlight and love. Nothing else mattered.

I glanced at Dominik, still cradling Sofia like she was the most precious treasure in the world, and softly asked, "Are you ready to leave?"

He sighed, his broad shoulders rising and falling.
