The next morning, the energy in the Airbnb was light and buzzing. I could feel it the moment I woke up—the way the sun streamed in through the window, casting a warm glow across the room. But that wasn't the only warmth I felt. There was something about today, something that made me feel like everything was shifting, and it had a lot to do with Spoke.
We had been flirty for days now, but ever since that moment, when we finally kissed, something was different. It wasn't just the little touches or teasing remarks—it was the way we moved around each other, the way our eyes met and held just a little longer than before. And I wasn't the only one who noticed.
As I came into the living room, I saw Spoke leaning over the kitchen counter, laughing at something Rek had said. His laughter was infectious, and I felt a smile pull at my lips. When his gaze found mine across the room, it was like a spark, an instant connection. He winked, and I felt my face heat up despite myself.
"Morning, Avs!" Jumper called from the couch, her voice cheerful. "We've got the snack stream coming up soon. You ready to taste the weirdest Japanese snacks the world has to offer?"
I laughed, making my way over to grab a cup of coffee. "As long as none of you try to trick me into eating something bizarre like squid-flavored candy, I'm good."
Spoke sidled up next to me, his shoulder brushing against mine. "Don't worry, I've got your back," he said, his voice soft but teasing, just loud enough for me to hear. He leaned in slightly, and I could feel the heat radiating off him. "Though, I might have to steal a bite of everything you pick out."
I glanced up at him, my heart skipping a beat at the mischievous look in his eyes. "Oh, so now we're sharing everything, huh?"
He grinned. "Always."
That little moment didn't go unnoticed by the others. I caught a glimpse of Ro out of the corner of my eye, his eyebrow raised in that knowing way of his. And Jumper? She wasn't subtle either, shooting a playful smirk in our direction.
As I sat down to finish my coffee, Ro plopped onto the chair next to me. He stretched out, looking relaxed but with that glint in his eye like he knew something was up.
"So, Avs," he started casually, his tone light but clearly fishing. "You and Spoke have been pretty close lately."
I tried to play it off, shrugging as I sipped my coffee. "We've always been close."
Ro tilted his head, giving me a look that said yeah, right. "Sure, but it's different now. You know what I'm talking about."
I couldn't help the small smile that crept onto my lips. There was no point in hiding it from Ro. He was observant, always able to pick up on things that others might miss.
"Yeah, maybe it is," I admitted quietly, my gaze drifting across the room to where Spoke stood, chatting with the others. "It's just... different. In a good way."
Ro nodded, his expression softening. "I can see that. Just... make sure you're ready for what comes with it. People are definitely going to notice, especially on stream."
I glanced at him, appreciating the concern. "I know. But I don't think I'm worried about that. I want this, Ro."
He gave me a small smile. "Then go for it. Just make sure you're ready for all the 'shippers' in chat."
I laughed at that. "Oh, I'm already bracing myself."
Later that day, as the stream started, the energy in the room was electric. The camera was set up, the snacks were spread out on the table, and the chat was already buzzing with excitement.
"Alright, chat," Jumper announced, leaning into the camera with a grin. "Today's stream is going to be a little different. We're trying out some... interesting Japanese snacks."
I sat next to Spoke, feeling the heat of his presence beside me. Every now and then, our hands would brush as we reached for a snack, or we'd lean in close to share a bite of something. It felt so natural, and yet I was hyper-aware of how close we were, how easily we fell into this rhythm together.
As the stream went on, the chat started picking up on it too. Comments started flooding in.
CHAT:
"Avs and Spoke are sharing EVERYTHING!?"
"Did you see that smile? They're totally into each other!"
"OMG, the eye contact!!!"I glanced at the chat and couldn't help but laugh. Spoke leaned over, reading the comments as well, a slow smile spreading across his face.
"They're onto us," he whispered, his voice low enough that only I could hear.
I rolled my eyes playfully. "Let them think whatever they want."
But deep down, I didn't mind. I liked that people were noticing. I liked that we weren't hiding this thing between us anymore.
As we continued to try different snacks—some sweet, some downright strange—I felt a shift in the stream's energy. The chat was no longer just about the snacks. It was all about us.
A little while later, Jumper pulled up something on the screen, a wide grin on her face. "So, chat's been busy," she said. "Someone already made an edit of Avs and Spoke."
I felt my heart skip as she clicked play, and a montage of moments from the stream filled the screen. It was filled with quick cuts of Spoke and me, the small glances, the smiles, the way we seemed to gravitate toward each other. The background music was my favourite Olivia Rodrigo song, so American, it was kind of sweet.
I glanced at Spoke, and he was watching the edit with an amused expression, but there was something else in his eyes—something softer, more real.
As the video ended, the chat exploded.
"Avoke forever!"
"They're so cute together!"
"Ship confirmed!"I felt a warmth bloom in my chest. I looked over at Spoke, and for a moment, it was like the rest of the world faded away. It was just the two of us, and I realized how right this felt—how right we felt.
After the stream had ended, we decided to head out to a nearby volleyball court. It had been a while since I'd played, and I was itching to get back into it, even if just for fun.
As we stepped onto the court, Spoke grabbed a volleyball and tossed it to me, a playful grin on his face. "Let's see what you've got, Avs."
I caught the ball, feeling a spark of excitement. "Oh, you're going down."
We spent the next hour laughing, teasing each other as we volleyed the ball back and forth. Every now and then, I'd catch him looking at me with that same soft expression he had during the stream, and it made my heart race.
At one point, I went for a spike, but Spoke was quick, diving to save it. He didn't quite make it, but his effort made me laugh so hard I nearly doubled over.
"You're terrible at this," I teased, walking over to help him up.
He took my hand, pulling himself to his feet, and for a moment, we stood there, close, breathing hard from the game. His hand lingered in mine, and he looked at me, his eyes full of something deep and unspoken.
"Maybe," he said, his voice soft. "But playing with you? Totally worth it."
"Your such a dork oh my god" As I said this he leaned down and said "oh yeah?" And kissed me.
