"So…” he spoke , his voice barely a whisper, but it cut through the tension like a blade. "It’s you."
Abhi froze his heart pounded in his chest. Whatever was in that file, it had destroyed everything. The fear he had kept buried clawed its way to the surface, knowing that their delicate balance was about to shatter.
He could feel her eyes on him, but he couldn’t look at her, not yet. His focus was on Devraj, on the file clenched in his hand—the file that had ripped apart their fragile plan."What’s in there?" Abhi managed to keep his voice steady.
Devraj chuckled darkly, shaking his head as if amused. "Oh, you don’t know, do you?" He held up the file, almost tauntingly.
a predatory gleam in his eyes as he toyed with the file in his hand. He tilted his head, enjoying the control, watching him struggle with the weight of his secrets.
"You really want to know, don’t you?" Devraj teased, his voice a mocking tone. "But why should I be the one to tell you when your sweet little lover can read it for herself?"
With that, he threw the file at her feet, the pages spilling across the floor. Her heart skipped, as she stared at it, frozen in place. The room felt tighter, suffocating. Devraj’s grin widened as he saw the hesitation in her eyes.
"Go on," he hissed, his voice cutting through her fear. "Pick it up. Read it. Out loud."
She didn’t move. Her heart thudded in her chest, her breath shallow. There was a terror growing inside her, a dread that whatever was in that file was going to destroy her. But she couldn’t move. She didn’t want to. She didn’t want to know.
She hesitated, her heart pounding as she glanced nervously at the armed men, especially the one standing dangerously close to Abhi, his gun shining under the dim light.
Devraj’s patience snapped. He slammed his fist on the table, his roar filling the room. "Read it aloud! Or I’ll blow your lover’s brains out right here!"
Her body jerked, and she dropped to her knees, hurriedly grabbing the file with shaking hands. "I-I’m reading, I m reading please, just don’t—" Her voice cracked, trembling as she opened the file, her vision blurring with tears as she tried to make out the words.
The room was tense, suffocating. Abhi stood silent, his fists clenched, his world crumbling before him, helpless as the gun pressed closer to his head.
Her voice wavered as she began to read aloud, "A-Abhishek Singh... undercover officer... assigned to... Devraj Rathore’s case..." She stumbled over the words, her breath hitching. Each word felt like a blade, slicing through her as the realization of what she was saying sank in.
Then, her eyes skimmed further down, and suddenly her voice dropped, almost inaudible as she read her own name.
"Bait... for the operation."Her breath faltered, and she could barely form the words, her throat tightening painfully. The room seemed to spin, her grip tightening on the pages. She could barely hear herself speak anymore, her voice a hollow whisper. "Operation… to catch Devraj."
Her hands trembled violently as she read the cold, detailed plans that had dictated her entire existence. Every gesture, every promise, every touch—carefully planned by her husband. a calculated move, a cold manipulation in a game she never knew she was a part of. With every sentence, her eyes grew redder, tears spilling as her heart shattered, unsure if any of it was true.
She was never part of his life—not in the way she thought. She wasn’t someone he had chosen to protect. She was bait. A tool. A piece on his chessboard.
It felt like the ground beneath her had been ripped away, leaving her to freefall into nothingness.
She struggled to keep reading. The words blurred, each one piercing through her like a dagger, making her numb. Was any of it real? Or had her life been nothing more than a part of his mission?
She couldn’t read any more. Her hands dropped to her sides, the file falling onto the floor from her lap, it's pages scattering like broken promises.
Tears streaked down her cheeks as her voice broke completely. She looked up at Devraj first, muttering, “It’s all a lie… it has to be.” pleading with him, as though somehow he could offer her the reassurance she so desperately needed. that somehow, this was all another one of his sick jokes. That it wasn’t real. That it wasn’t happening.
Her voice cracked, but his cold, mocking smile told her everything she didn’t want to believe. He was enjoying this, savoring her pain.
She looked up at Abhi, her voice cracking as she stammered, and a pain so deep it felt like her very soul was being torn apart.
"It’s... it’s a lie. Right?" she whispered, the question barely audible, her voice a broken plea, begging him to tell her that everything she read wasn’t true. She repeated, desperate now, her voice barely a whisper, "Tell me it’s a lie..."
Abhi couldn’t say anything. His eyes red as it's pleading her. His shoulder slumped with shame, his silence screaming louder than any words could. The shame in his posture enough to suffocate her. She had never felt so betrayed, so utterly destroyed. The man she had trusted, he had been using her all along. And now, standing before her, he had no defense. No lies to make it better.
"Look at him," Devraj sneered, his voice thick with mockery. "Your *hero*. Too ashamed to even look you in the eyes. Doesn’t that tell you everything you need to know, darling?"
She was frozen, his silence more devastating than anything Dvraj could say. The man she loved, the man she trusted, was silent—his guilt written in every line of his face.
All she could do was stare at her husband, her vision blurring from the tears. He didn't, didn’t say a word."A love built on lies," Devraj mocked, a cruel smile playing on his lips. "How poetic."
