Staring and Jealousy

Chapter 2

George found Alexis again as they walked up to the carriages along with Fred and Lee. He put his arm around her shoulder holding her tightly on the ride up to the castle. He kept whispering how beautiful she was along with several other things just to see how long he could keep her blushing.

"I think I might lose my lunch," Ron whispered to Harry and Hermione.

George kicked him, "Oh grow up Ron, you're just jealous." earning him an elbow to the ribs. "In the words of your mother, behave," Alexis said glaring up at him. Putting on his best innocent face he smiled as he told her sorry. She rolled her eyes leaning back onto his chest.
"You're impossible," she mocked unable to keep the smile from her face.

In the carriage behind them, Mattheo watched brooding. He could feel the rage building inside him. He wanted to punch something, preferably that obnoxious prank puller right in his redheaded face. What did she see in him? What could Weasley possibly have that he didn't?

"What's wrong with you?" Enzo asked feeling the anger radiating off him. "Nothing, I'm fine," Mattheo spit at him. "Obviously," Theo said with a look at Enzo. "Shut up Theo," Mattheo growled rolling his eyes. The other two grinned knowing how Mattheo could be and if he didn't want to talk there was no making him.

Walking into the great hall George kissed Alexis before she headed to the Slytherin table,
"See you later, Lex." She smiled shyly, "Until then George."

She sat down waiting for the first years to do their sorting ceremony. She didn't even realize who sat down next to her. "Really, Black, a Weasley. That's the best you could do?" Alexis knew the voice immediately, and sighed with frustration "Why do you care, Draco? It's not like my relationship has anything to do with you."

"Oh, I don't care, I just think it pitiful. He's not really a good fit for you. I think a Black should be with a little more status," he said with a smug grin. Alexis tried to ignore him. But she was struggling as that darkness in the back of her mind was demanding she tear him apart.

"I mean do you really believe he's man enough for you? I'm sure we could find a better fit," He said smirking at her.

"Stop worrying about what he does or doesn't do for me. Neither your opinion nor your ridiculous blood purity ideas have any sway over who I choose to date," she leaned in close enough she could smell his woody cologne. "You are nothing but an annoyance that everyone would love to be rid of." She stayed in his face for a moment more before turning her back to him. If she had watched a moment longer she might have seen the pain that flashed in his eyes as her words hit a little too close to home.

She watched as the new professor, dressed as a giant piece of bubblegum, gave some ridiculous speech that she barely listened to preferring to watch George as he interacted with his fellow Gryffindors. As the woman finished her speech, George looked over at her spinning his finger by his temple with a nod toward the professor and Alexis let out a giggle before regaining her composure.

Mattheo sat glaring at anyone who spoke to him. Enzo and Theo seemed to acknowledge that this mood was tied to Alexis and decided they were going to talk to him about it later whether he wanted to or not. Mattheo wanted nothing more than to sneak out and smoke a cigarette, a habit he'd picked up over the summer. It was the only thing that seemed to calm him down when everything became overwhelming. This stupid feast certainly qualified. Watching Alexis flirt with that redheaded moron flirt from across the room was enough to make him want to put his fist through a wall. He would make her see though, that he was better, and she would come around before long.

As the feast ended and it was time to head to their own houses Alexis walked away without a glance back at the other Slytherins. George met her at the door to the great hall and took her hand as he walked her to the Slytherin common room. She leaned against the wall to give room for everyone else to enter. George leaned over her with his forearm on the wall.
