Chapter 10

As the group walked into Grimmauld Place the aroma of the most mouthwatering food washed over them. They all heard Sirius yelling Merry Christmas as they wandered into the dining room. The table was covered in every Christmas food imaginable, and they all rushed to the table excitedly. Molly chided Sirius half-heartedly about doing all the cooking without her.

"You deserved a break Molly, Kreacher and I did just fine. Come on everyone dig in," Sirius told them kissing Alexis on the head as he took his seat. The food was as good as it smelled as everyone ate until they were stuffed.

"Oh, little love I almost forgot, Dumbledore dropped something off for you. It got diverted to him at the castle. I left it on your bed," Sirius told her as everyone finished eating.

Alexis shrugged and left to go see what it was. She walked into her room to find a single white rose on her bed with a letter. She smelled the rose and smiled at the beautiful scent as she opened the letter. The writing was familiar but she couldn't place how she knew it. The letter was nothing special and didn't give any indication of who it was from it simply said,

Alexis,

Merry Christmas, I hope it is everything you wished it would be.

Alexis looked at it confused before heading back downstairs wondering who would send her a rose for Christmas and why they wouldn't sign the letter.

She sat down next to Mattheo, "What was it?" he asked wrapping his arms around her. "A rose with an unsigned letter. I have no idea who sent it," she shrugged looking at him not sure what else to say. He looked confused but tried not to dwell on it as everyone else was coming into the room.

As everyone retired to the living room, Ron and Harry pulled out Wizards Chess, and Fred and George began discussing a new product they were working on with Ginny and Hermione. Sirius grabbed Alexis and Mattheo to take a picture for their wall of portraits. The two kids smiled and laughed as Sirius kept moving them around to ensure the picture was perfect. Molly took the picture once Sirius finally found the ideal spot.

They decided they needed one of everyone in front of the tree dragging everyone up and getting the camera set Sirius ran over to put his arm around Alexis and Harry. As the group dispersed Alexis had a weird feeling, dark and ominous. She didn't know why but she couldn't shake the feeling for the rest of the night.

As everyone said their goodnights, Alexis quietly climbed the stairs unable to bring herself to join in the lively conversations. Mattheo caught her as she started into her room, "What's going on with you? You've been acting odd all night," he was worried maybe she didn't want his picture up on the wall with the others.

"I don't know, honestly, I just have a bad feeling. Like something bad is going to happen. It's nothing, I probably just ate too much," she told him with a smile that didn't quite feel real. Mattheo smiled sadly, "Sure yeah, just too much food. Well, goodnight princess."

Alexis was standing in the doorway of her home, the halls were dark and quiet. She called out for Sirius but there was no response, so she moved through the house. The furniture was all covered with sheets and every surface was covered in a thick coating of dust. She searched every room but couldn't find Sirius anywhere. She finally stopped in front of their wall of pictures, she looked from one picture to the next, but she felt her heart fall at the last picture. It was the group picture from Christmas and there was a large crack through the middle, right over Sirius.

She turned to run but found herself in a strange large home. Screams echoed through the halls, she ran toward the sound searching for the source. She stopped dead seeing Mattheo writhing on the floor in pain. His father standing over him with a sickening smile on his snakelike face. "You will join me," he demanded angrily as he stopped torturing Mattheo. "No, I won't, I never will so you might as well kill me already," Mattheo spat back at him. Sweat had drenched through his shirt and soaked his hair, he tried to sit up but couldn't find the strength. The man's smile turned cruel as he shot the spell at Mattheo again, "You will join me, boy, you will break eventually. Everyone does."
