Chapter 32

Alexis sat with her friends and Draco at lunch her mind a thousand miles away. Voldemort knew about her abilities and he wanted her too. This was bad and she needed to tell someone soon.

"Earth to Alex, where are you at right now?" Theo said waving his hand in front of her face.

She laughed but it sounded a little hollow, "Sorry just so much homework already I was trying to think of a good schedule to keep up with it all."

Theo and Enzo started talking again as Draco leaned over, "You sure you're alright darling? You've been off since you got to lunch."

"We can talk about it later but we should go. We don't want to be late for potions," Alexis grabbed her things and stood up walking out of the Great Hall without checking to see if they followed her.

Alexis felt an odd feeling come over her as she walked down the hall. Like a sense of impending doom as the edges of her vision started to go dark.

She saw two futures in front of her, one where Draco got a potion as a prize in class and Dumbledore was dead within a few days and Voldemort won and the other where Harry got it and Voldemort died.

As her eyes cleared and the light came back to the room she glanced over at the look in Draco's eyes, desperate and determined. She knew she had to do something to sabotage his potion. Draco couldn't get that potion.

The others caught up to her and followed her to where the rest of the students waiting for potions. Right after they walked up the door opened and Slughorn's belly popped out.

The scent of potions brewing flowed out of the room as he told everyone to come in and find a table. Harry and Ron got a few supplies from the professor since they didn't think they would be able to take potions. Blaise and Mattheo chose the table right next to Draco's as Slughorn got up in front of them.

"Alright, I have prepared a few potions for all of you to see what you will be capable of doing once you finish your N.E.W.T.s. Now let's see who can identify the potions behind me," Slughorn turned and pointed to the potions behind him and Hermione beat her out the first two times. Saying that Harry had told him about her being the best in their year.

Alexis felt a bit of anger rise inside her knowing she had gotten better marks but everyone still praised Hermione because she was a Gryffindor, not a Slytherin. So when Slughorn asked about the third potion her hand shot up before he had even finished pointing.

"Yes, miss?" Slughorn motioned to Alexis.

"Black sir," Alexis told him with a smile.

"Black huh? You're Sirius's daughter then?" Slughorn smiled at her thinking about how he hadn't had her father but maybe having her would make up for it.

"Yes sir, Sirius was my father. The potion is Amortentia, the most powerful love potion in existence. It's obvious from the sheen of the potion and the steam rising in spirals. It's rumored to smell different to everyone who smells it. For example, I smell woody musk, roses and, fresh evening air" Alexis' smiled as Draco took her hand and squeezed it gently.

"Well done Miss Black, now Amortentia does not create real love but it does create a deep affection or obsession. It is probably the most dangerous potion in this room," A few snickers from around the room caused him to pause and look around. "When you have been around as long as I have you will learn to never underestimate the power of obsessive love."

One of the students pointed to the last potion in a tiny vial, "Sir you haven't told us what's in that one yet."

Before Slughorn could respond Alexis answered, "It's Felix Felicis, also known as liquid luck." The Professor explained more about it and that it was the prize for the best potion. Alexis realized why Draco would want that potion so badly, he wouldn't be able to fail if he had it.

The students all pulled out their supplies and started working on their potions. Draco leaned over to her as she started preparing her ingredients, "Well I think I'm flattered, you smell my cologne, roses which only I give you, and fresh evening air like we might smell on the Astronomy tower."

She cleared her throat and without looking at him she replied, "Don't go getting a big head, it won't fit through the door."

Draco gave her a sweet smile, "If you say so darling." She started working on her potion trying to figure out how to tell Draco he couldn't get the liquid luck.

"Draco, you can't be the one to get the liquid luck. If you do the Dark Lord will win. We both know you will succeed but it has to be at the right time. Dumbledore has to complete some kind of task before he can be killed or Voldemort won't be defeated," Alexis looked at him her heart breaking at the disappointment on his face but he nodded.

When he started stirring his potion he did a quarter stir the wrong way before finishing the rest of the instructions. She reached for him lacing her fingers through his and mouthed "I'm sorry." Draco gave her a sad smile, "It's ok."

When class ended Harry ended up with a perfect potion and a few others had a passable one. Draco's was good but not enough to win the liquid luck.

She felt sympathy as she saw the disappointment on Draco's face, "You don't need it Draco. You're going to succeed at the task you were given, I've seen it." Alexis gathered her things and Draco pulled her to himself and hugged her tightly. He kissed her forehead before letting her finish packing up her supplies.

***Mattheo's POV***

Mattheo waited until everyone else left the class before turning to Professor Slughorn, "I'm sorry about this sir," he raised his wand, "Imperio. Now sir I'm going to need a few vials of the Amortentia."

Mattheo waited tapping his fingers with impatience as Slughorn filled half a dozen bottles with the love potion. Once Slughorn finished and handed the bottles to him Draco took a deep breath. "She's supposed to be with me. The prophecy says that she and I have to be together," He raised his wand once more and whispered, "Obliviate," before turning and walking out of the classroom.

He glanced around as he gently laid the vials in a velvet-laced box and placed them gently in his bag. His father wanted her but she needed to be pliable when that happened, for her own safety. His mind drifted back to class with her, hearing her saying all the things she smelled in the Amortentia. Not one of them was something about him, it was all about Malfoy. That was fine, for now, Draco could have her because soon enough she would be his again.
