Peace in the Storm

Chapter 20

The two sat next to each other smiling happily in the peaceful bubble they created for one another. "How do you do it? Keep all of your classes up getting Outstanding in everything?" Draco asked as curiosity got the best of him.

She smiled as she considered how to respond, "I don't know, some of the classes just come naturally to me. Others I have to work harder at. I just wanted to stand out in some way and being fantastic in my classes seemed the simplest way."

Draco nodded, "I always wanted to do better, I know my father has been disappointed at times in my grades. Just seems like no matter how hard I try I always fall short." Alexis took his hand lancing her fingers through his. "I can help you, we can study together. Maybe you could do well on your O.W.Ls."

He grinned, "I'd like that." He leaned forward tangling his hand in her long dark hair and kissed her. The kiss was incredible and Alexis felt herself melt into him. She'd never been kissed in a way that made her feel like everything in the world was perfect. She felt the curve of his muscles beneath his thin shirt. She marveled as she slid her hands up his chest at his stone-hard abs.

BOOM

The sound reverberated through the castle. The two jumped at the sound, breaking their kiss. With a glance at each other, they grabbed their bags and rushed down the stairs.

Massive dragon fireworks were exploding all over the entrance hall. Alexis laughed hysterically at the scene unfolding before them. Umbridge and Filch were desperately trying to dispel them but it was just making matters worse. Draco watched her transfixed by the beauty of her laughter. He reached out taking her hand momentarily oblivious to the absurdity around them.

Mattheo stared through the insanity before him straight at Alexis, his girl, laughing with Malfoy. It couldn't be what he was thinking, she'd made him wait weeks after breaking up with George, and she hated Malfoy. Didn't she, but she'd hated him too at one point. He stormed off feeling that familiar build of anger bubbling up from his core.

The rest of the day was complete chaos as the fireworks continued to disturb classes all day. Laughter broke out as every professor sent a student off to fetch the new headmistress claiming they didn't know if it fell in their rights to get rid of them after all the new rules being made.

With class over for the day, Alexis found her way back up to her new favorite place. She pulled out her books to study before supper. It didn't take long for Draco to join her taking his books out as well. "Any more run-ins with Riddle?"

Alexis looked up from her books into his eyes, "No, for now, he seems to be respecting my wishes." She gave him a small smile as she looked back down at her homework. Her smile widened as Draco's leg pressed against hers as he readjusted to get more comfortable. Their studying was constantly interrupted as fireworks continued to randomly explode around the school.

They finally packed up for supper and Alexis turned to walk to the stairs when Draco grabbed her arm pulling her back. He wrapped his arms around her waist as his steel-blue eyes met her emerald-green ones. He pulled her close and kissed her deeply. Her head spinning from the surprise of the moment she didn't immediately kiss him back but the draw to the peace he provided eventually pulled her in.

The next couple of days passed in the same way, classes, meals, and studying with Draco. Sometimes they met in the Astronomy tower and other times in the library when the weather was too bad to be outside.

Friday afternoon Alexis had her Career Advice session with Snape. She entered his office right on time and sat across from him. "Well Miss Black, we both know your grades offer no difficulty to any path you should want to pursue. The only question now is which career you are interested in most."
