Chapter 34

She woke suddenly after seeing a girl walking down the path back from Hogsmeade, she was arguing with her friend before she began to lift into the air letting out an ear-splitting scream.

Alexis looked over to see Draco staring back eyes wide, "Are you okay? What's wrong?" He looked unnaturally pale, even for as fair as his skin usually was.

"I saw something, it felt so real. I'm not sure what it meant," he was stammering over his words trying to find the right way to say it but he was struggling. For someone who was normally very eloquent with words, his current state was very unusual.

"Just tell me about the dream, sometimes that can help," Alexis took his hand and smiled encouragingly at him.

"Okay well, I think I was walking back from Hogsmeade when I saw two girls from Gryffindor arguing in front of me. One girl tried to take something from the other and she raised up into the air and screamed. But it wasn't a normal scream it was the most horrific sound I think I've ever heard. Even worse than that time in Defense Against the Dark Arts last year when you collapsed," Draco could see something in her eyes, shock or maybe pity as he recounted his dream for her.

"That wasn't a dream, Love. That was a vision, the same one that woke me up. I'm sorry, I wouldn't wish this ability on anyone," she laid her head on his chest holding him tightly.

Neither of them could fall back asleep so they moved to her window seat together. As they stared out into the night she thought about her father and his friends as they were going through this same animagus process. She wondered if any of them messed up and had to start the mandrake leaf part over. From full moon to full moon doesn't normally feel like a long time but right now it feels like an eternity.

A few tears slipped out as she wished she could talk to Sirius and ask him questions about when he had gone through this. Had he been as nervous as her? She had read that your animal was what embodied you as a person but that it could also be the same as your Patronus.

She stared up at the moon and had an idea, there was one person she could ask. He wasn't exactly a participant but he had been with his friends throughout the whole process, Remus.

"I think I need to write a letter to my dad's best friend. I feel like I have so many unanswered questions and I wonder if he would give me any answers," she kissed Draco as she moved out of the comfort of his arms.

"Okay, you know I'm going to have to start coming up with some sort of plan to complete my task. I can't put it off much longer," Draco told her feeling sick to his stomach at the thought.

"I know and I think that vision may be a clue to how we can do it. Just try to relax for now and I promise we will figure something out later."

Alexis grabbed her robe and slipped it on as she sat down at her desk thinking of exactly how to ask without giving anything away. She finally had the basics of what she wanted to say and did her best to put it to paper.

Remus,

Being back at school this year has left me with questions about my parents and my father. I'm sure it may seem silly but the one question I keep coming back to is how did they decide to become Animagi? I know they didn't want you to be alone during the full moon but what was it like for them when they went through that process? Did any of them mess up and have to start over? Were they nervous about what could happen if the spell went wrong or about what animal they would transform into? I know Dad wanted me to live with you, but I know that isn't something you want. You've always been there for me and I just want you to know how much you mean to me.
