Chapter 33
The next day after Transfiguration as Alexis was packing up her things Professor McGonagall called out to her, "Miss Black would you stay behind a moment?"
Alexis nodded to her friends and smiled as Draco squeezed her hand and walked out with the other Slytherin boys. Alexis walked up to the professor's desk as the other students all filed out.
"You wanted to talk to me, professor?" Alexis asked curious as to what exactly her extra lessons would be for.
"Yes, I believe Professor Snape informed you of the extra lessons that Dumbledore requested you to have," She waited a moment for Alexis to nod before continuing. "Good, the headmaster has requested that you learn to become an Animagus. He believes it may keep you safer in the difficult times to come."
Alexis blinked a few times, of all the things she was expecting an animagus was definitely the last thing she expected. "I ugh, aren't animagus required to be registered ma'am? What if the Death Eaters got the list, wouldn't that be bad?"
"Ah yes well Dumbledore has had a special circumstances exception made for you. You will technically be registered but it will not be filed with the ministry until things have settled down. Now the first part of this process isn't pleasant but unfortunately, it is necessary," McGonagall held out a mandrake leaf.
Alexis reached out to take it trying to remember what exactly the process was for becoming an animagus. She looked up at Professor McGonagall her eyes confused as she could not for the life of her remember the process.
McGonagall smiled, "I had hoped that one of my best students might remember but I'm not honestly surprised you've forgotten. You must keep this leaf in your mouth for a month. I remember it being very unpleasant. It may also cause issues with any extracurricular activities with Mr. Malfoy."
Alexis blushed brightly as she placed the mandrake leaf in her cheek. It tasted awful and bitter as it sat in her cheek.
"Very good, now we can't start the rest of the process until you have done that for a month but every Saturday at 8 pm we will practice the other parts of the transformation. Oh and Alexis, you cannot tell anyone about these lessons. This must remain between the three of us for your safety," The professor gave her a long hard look as she explained the importance of the secrecy of her lessons.
"So what do I tell my friends about me keeping a leaf in my mouth for a month?" Alexis asked a bit of frustration leaking into her voice.
"Oh, you can tell them it's part of the process for an advanced spell, just not what the spell is. Now I'm sure you have somewhere else you need to be," McGonagall told her as a clear sign that she was dismissed.
Alexis walked out readjusting the mandrake leaf dreading the next month of her life. The boys were leaning up against the wall outside of the class waiting for her, "Hey so what kind of private lessons is McGonagall going to be teaching you?" Draco asked as they headed to lunch.
"Umm just some complicated defensive spells, one of which I have to keep a mandrake leaf in my mouth for a while month," she told them showing them the leaf.
"Wait isn't mandrake super gross?" Enzo asked looking at the leaf.
Alexis grimaced, "Yes it's terrible, it's literally the most bitter disgusting thing I've ever tasted. I mean how am I supposed to eat with this thing I'm my mouth?"
Theo grinned mischievously, "Better question, how is this poor guy going to get his daily dose of Alexis when you have that nasty thing in your mouth?"
She punched his shoulder giving him a death glare as Draco and Enzo did their best to stifle their laughter.
