You Can't Change Fate

Chapter 26

Alexis woke early from another vision of Draco being tortured and a dozen visions of random faces and events she couldn't understand. She lay there staring at Draco as he slept peacefully. Every worry line and every trace of stress was erased. She wished her dreams could be as serene as his seemed to be. She committed every curve of his face to memory until the sun began to rise and he began to stir.

His stunning eyes opened staring straight into hers, "Good morning, Darling. How long have you been awake?" She smiled softly as her hand caressed his face, "Not very long, I'm too anxious to sleep."

He sat up stretching with a yawn so loud Alexis couldn't help but laugh at him. He grinned before tackling her and their eyes met neither breathing for a moment before his lips crashed into hers. They spent the last precious moments, before having to leave Hogwarts for the year, wrapped in each other's arms forgetting the rest of the world outside Draco's room.

Alexis went to grab her things and met Draco back in the common room as Theo and Enzo came down the stairs from the boy's dorm. Mattheo was nowhere to be seen. Alexis hugged them both, "Where's Mattheo? Did he already head to the train?"

The boys shared an uncomfortable look before Enzo answered her, "He disappeared after the feast last night, Alex. No one has seen him since. We don't know for sure but we are pretty sure we know what happened." Alexis felt the air leave her lungs, this was all her fault. Her choosing Draco had pushed him right into the arms of his father. At that moment she realized she hadn't seen the vision of Mattheo willingly joining Voldemort. If she hadn't dreamt it that must mean it already happened.

She could feel the panic clawing its way up from her chest as her breathing grew more shallow. Her vision was going black around the edges as she felt consciousness pulled away as she fell, the floor rising up to meet her.

Draco managed to catch her just before her head smashed into the hard floor. As the three boys surrounded her trying to decide what to do Professor Snape came to make sure everyone was cleared out and on their way down to the train.

"What is going on here?" He demanded as he walked over to see Alexis unconscious in Draco's arms.

"She found out Mattheo disappeared last night and had a panic attack or something and collapsed," Theo's voice held a slightly panicked undertone as he explained what happened.

"I see, Draco, pick her up and follow me quickly. You two grab their trunks," Snape led them quickly to his office where he gave Alexis something to relax her nerves. She finally started to come around as they were getting to the carriages heading down to the train.

She looked up to see Draco carrying her his eyes filled with concern. She reached her hand out cupping his face, "Why do I feel so weird?"

"Snape gave you something to calm you down, darling, you had a panic attack. You passed out, we were all concerned about how hard another blow would be to how fragile you've been since..." Draco's sentence died out not wanting to say again that her father was gone. He knew how much she had been suffering and he hated Mattheo for adding to her agony. She was clearly blaming herself for his sudden departure.

Alexis's eyes started to well up with tears as Draco helped her into one of the carriages. Her chest felt tight even though her body felt like it could melt into a puddle. By the time they got to the train, Alexis could walk enough to just have Draco's support. He found them a room for the four of them and got her comfortable as the boys got all their trunks stored away.

"Things are going to get bad this summer, I don't know most of the people I've been seeing in my visions, and that scares me. I've only seen people I've been close to so the fact that I've seen so many strangers makes me think some really terrible things are coming," Alexis looked at the men around her knowing for sure that at least one of them was headed toward something truly horrific.
