11. The casts

“Important guest? This … thing?

“Watch your words, Mrs Melissa,” Harry cut her off in a loud voice,

“Just hear what I've said and let it end here. Please, everyone, you can go back to your places, so sorry for the disturbance.” He apologized and the crowd dispersed, murmuring as they did.

While Melissa stood there staring at Harry in anger, wondering what gave the young man the audacity to speak to her in that manner. She believed that she was an important figure in the industry, and not even the director dared to test her patient.

But Melissa chose to let it slide,

“I'm going to deal with him later,” she thought,

“Right after I claim the lead role, I will make him pay.”

As the guests returned to the center of the party, grabbing a drink and chatting away with their colleagues, Harry turned to look for Jennifer just so that he could apologize one more time, but his eyes met someone that he couldn't believe he missed.

Jason Blackwood, the Boss, the man who no one saw, was at his party, seated in a corner, he couldn't believe that he showed up.

Excitedly, Jason walked up to him, and he noticed Jennifer standing by his side, he had no doubts that these two were in a relationship but were yet to make it public.

As soon as Jason saw him walking up to the table, he looked him straight in the eye and shook his head from side to side, signaling the director to stay back and not make a public announcement.

And Harry was quick to decode this sign but he couldn't understand why the man refused to be addressed properly. They had only met twice aside today and this signal was similar to the ones he got.

“Maybe he hated public appearances? Hated to be noticed?” He wondered,

“He is sitting amongst those he made who they are, yet none of them recognised him, there has got to be a good explanation for it.”

Harry smiled at him and nodded, before walking away to say hello to others, including actors and crew members. The room was full of interaction with slow music in the background. Every hand had a glass of wine in it, and most seats were not occupied.

But as soon as Harry ascended to the stage, he drew the attention of the disk jockey and he brought down the volume of the music so that his voice was audible. Harry cleared his throat, and said,

“Hello?”

Everyone turned to face him, each with a smile on their face, they knew that it was time, time to reveal the men and women behind the cast of the upcoming movie. They took their seats, and applauded him, while Harry just waved and smiled.

While he gave his opening speech, Melissa averted her gaze and stole a glance at Jennifer who was still seated close to Jason, and it hurt her so much to see the two together even though nothing happened between them.

“Just wait until your name is not mentioned tonight. Jennifer, the shame will make you leave without being kicked out.” Her thoughts were soon interrupted by Alex's hand going over her shoulder.

Meanwhile, Jennifer just kept her hopes high, she knew she was going to get a role but wasn't sure what. Even if we're to be the lady in the market who only appears twice in the story, it is better than nothing.

“Wish me luck,” she muttered, staring at Jason with a smile.

Jason smiled in return and uttered,

“You won't need it.”

Harry started by calling out the minor cast, and then slowly proceeded to the major cast, most of which were absent from the party, and finally, it was time to call the lead actress.

“Ahem,” He cleared his throat

“We had quite a good number of auditions for the role, I must admit that playing the role of a struggling single mother with a newborn is not easy, especially following the story but we had people come and pull it off.”

“However,” He continued, building up the suspense as the guests could barely wait.

“We can only have one Ava Sanchez.”

Harry paused again and looked up to Melissa, his lips curved into a smile, and at this point, Melissa was ready to jump up in excitement. But to her greatest surprise, Harry turned to her rival and asked,

“Miss Jennifer Thomson, would you love to be our Ava Sanchez?” He asked her, leaving the audience, including Melissa speechless for a second.

“It must have been a mistake,” they thought, but Harry seemed very sure with what he had said.

Jennifer stood up in shock, her hands over her lips, the outcome was something that they least expected but the guests still applauded her. She was talented and deserved it, and not just the producer but everyone else knew she would play that role better.

“Excuse me!” Melissa stood up to her feet in a fit of rage, and Harry knew what was coming next, and took an immediate step to tackle it before it went too far.

Without saying a word, his eye contact with the securities in the back prompted them to move. They advanced toward Melissa, and while she was yet to finish, nagging, they took her by the arm and walked her out of the hall, leaving everyone in shock.

Alex stood up, cast a deadly glare at the director and went after them, while Harry just rolled back his eyes in disdain and waited for the chaos to subside.

Afterwards, Jennifer expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity, she was full of joy and couldn't stop staring at Jason with a smile on her face.

“He is some kind of lucky charm,” she thought to herself,

“My life has changed since I met him. Who knows, maybe some people just exist in your life to make it better, and you only get to meet them once in a lifetime… I need to know more about him.”
