Phil kept a close eye on Annie as she trained with a new teammate. The elf had praised her skills so many times that Phil needed to see her at work. After all, she was supposed to be this badass girl who would change the course of history. Yet, all he saw was weakness and a disappointing girl.
Perhaps changing shifts was a waste of time. He thought. Now I am doomed to a double shift and for what? He shook his head. I am missing a night in Lina's arms and for this? His lip curled. Annie was playing at deflecting and failing at it time and again.
At this rate, Davon will find his way into the camp before Annie shows enough improvement to move into the wolf realm. Phil paced back and forward eyes on the fight.
He hissed. Every pared-down attack failed is failing to protect her; each blow is making contact with her body. Annie is sloppy, slow, and breathes like a chimney on the verge of dying.
"She might fool the others, but -NOT ME-" Phil's nose flared the air saying those words. Where is her wolf? I can't smell it.
The thought lingered, and he wasn't the only one wondering. After all, they hadn't seen her wolf for months.
Then it finally happened.
He snorted.
Her magic nullified the wolf. It disappeared forever.
He chuckled.
Now how will she carry on with the lie? The werewolf witch is but a myth meant to endoctrinate the weakest of the lot.
Indeed the wolf is not present, Phil's wolf agreed. Phil scratched his head.
Yet her mutations were unique the other day and she was the first to use magic in her werewolf form. How could that be explained? He was puzzled.
After that day, for a brief moment. He had believed just to be proven wrong. She wasn't anything special.
Then why is king Davon after her? He has been so persistent about getting his hands on her. Phil's lip twitched again.
Annie landed on the ground with a thud a blade under her chin before it reached her, she twisted her legs and blocked the assault while jumping on her feet.
Phil studied her carefully, hoping to find what he was missing. This time she jumped higher than usual to avoid being knocked out by the dwarf. Dwarves were slower, but their punches were made with brute force, able to bring stone into dust. Phil chuckled, her opponent wasn't sparring Annie, even though this was supposed to be a training session.
His wolf once again kept his mind occupied elsewhere, never sharing his observations though he disagreed with his host's thoughts. Unless asked, he wouldn't tell him what he thought. He knew better. Phil was a strong host and he knew how to make him pay.
When Annie landed on her feet, she went for a frontal attack, Phil shook his head. She was far too slow and her lack of strength was obvious. It was doomed from the start, even if the technique was flawless. The man threw her away with little effort. Annie landed painfully on her side. She huffed, but it was obvious to his ears that she was muffling her pain; she wouldn't be in so much pain if her wolf was there to do the minimum and heal her. The wolf's instinct was to protect the host from harm. If Leah had been there, she would at least have kept her from getting hurt. Annie asked for a break. She was out of breath. Again!
Phil walked over to Annie."Annie, your wolf. Summon it."
She froze slightly. "I knew it!" Phil said to himself.
"Uh, she's tired and gathering energy for tonight." Annie brushed him off.
Phil remembered Lina complaining about the runs Annie had been part of. She was misleading the trackers with Tom. The girls seemed to be chatty in those baths and more seemed to be gathering every day. Annie was making her own little coven.
