She inhaled in and out heavily. She was loosing him. He was dying and there was no one else than her to save him. "You can't die!" The idea of being alone made her heart break.
She looked at his body stiffened by the organism inside him. Thought much of it had come out, he wasn't breathing. "No! Not today! You have to live!" Her hands pressed his chest with despair. She would keep doing CPR, his heart would beat again. Tears fell down. Her hand ached, her shoulders were heavy.
Desperation grew into something deeper, raw. Still she kept at it. "Check mate. He isn't coming back. He is gone." Dark thought lingered in her mind. Leah did nothing to help her, she was worse than her. Her heart ached like it was being rip apart.
"If he dies, I will die too." She told Annie.
A shiver ran through Annie's hands making a spark. Her eyes opened with a jerk, just in time to see his body lifting from the ground for a second. Exactly when the spark made contact with his chest, the blisters on her fingertips blew open. Yet, her attention was elsewhere making her overlook the pain. "What have I done?" Her magic had a will of its own. It reigned over her sometimes, specially when she was out of despair. "Did I kill him?"
She moved her face towards his, lifted his chin to open his airways and drove her ear to his nose and mouth.
"Is he breathing?" Leah asked with a shaking voice.
Slowly his lids moved. Their eyes crossed for a second that felt much longer than it was. He smiled and so did Annie. Tears mirrored in her eyes, but Annie's relief lasted a mere second. Her eyes widened reminding her of her clothing situation. Her hand slapped his face harder than anticipated. Annie jerked back screaming.
"You. Pervert! Stay! Down!" Annie screamed.
"What is wrong with you?" He complained before puking over the opposite side. He hadn't noticed her naked body. He had just been happy to see her again after dreading for his life.
Annie retreated like a thief looking for her backpack. " Close your eyes, this wolf gave me back my shape, I'm naked. I thought you died! I am sorry. It's not your fault. But. I had no time to dress before saving your life." Hysterical, she took her bag and looked for something to wear. The wolf was laughing at the scene, letting her bare and without help. "Leah you wanted control, come and take it back..." Annie commented when she finally pulled a bra over her chest.
"I'm too tired." She responded amused, but in the end, it was the truth.
"You, annoying mutt !!!" Annie mouthed. When she finally turned around, Tom was lying with his arm over his eyes. He looked peaceful as if he was on a picnic chilling and not dying a sencond ago.
She sighed wondering if he had cheated and taken a peek. She approached and noticed his chest steadly going up and down. A green liquid was still leaking from his ears. Making another check-up, she noticed that whatever was left inside was now dormant and being rejected by his body. The vives that were once grounding him to the ground weren't attached anymore. Whatever was the spell he casted, was a deadly one. Not only was it meant to kill, it was also meant to destroy any evidence.
She contemplated him for a second, placing his hair. Tom was the only reminder of her old life. He was her friend and his shoulder to crie on. After she realized that there was no way back home, he had been the one keeping her sane. She was morally in debt to him. Not only had he been her moral support, he had kept her safe from the council. Otherwise she wouldn't have her memories or magic or even a wolf. She could be dead for all that matter.
She huffed relieved. They would be alright now.
After a while Tom woke up to the smell of eggs and bread. His grouling belly gave him away. Once his belly was full, he deciphered the message and succeeded this time, since he wasn't knocked out again.
