depression creeps in, silent, slow,
a thief of light that used to glow.
it steals the joy, the dreams we chase,
and leaves behind an empty space.

piece by piece, it wears us down,
in shadows where we start to drown.
a smile fades, a laugh decays,
as hope slips through the darkened haze.

the heart grows heavy, the spirit weak,
the future dim, the outlook bleak.
each day a battle, a fight to stand,
as life slips through a trembling hand.

and in the end, what once was whole,
is lost within a shattered soul.
depression takes, it leaves behind,
a hollow shell, an aching mind.
