Day 4: Cozy
*******
Those were the types of days that made life living for. The ones that made Keith glad he fought so hard during all of those years.
All they did today was wake up around noon, eat a simple bowl of cereal for breakfast/lunch, watch movies and show cuddling on the couch and heating up leftovers for dinner. Finally, they took off the pj's they had worn the previous night and for the entire day to go take a long bubbly bath together and snuggle more afterward in their bed.
Really, life couldn't get better than this.
When they were still actively fighting against the Galra, nightmares where his friends died were almost a routine for Keith. Even once everything was over, he often woke up in sweats after imagining life if things hadn't ended in their favour.
But now, the only recurring dreams he had were the ones with Kaite in them. The moment they finally confessed, memories of his favorite dates or just normal events of their relationship would be on replay over and over in his mind.
She always looked so beautiful in them.
Keith lifted his head up from where it rested on her chest as he lied between her legs, careful not to stir too much. She didn't seem to notice his movement, too absorbed in the book she was reading.
Her hair was messily tied in what couldn't be called a bun nor a ponytail, her eye bags were more visible than usual while her skin was starting to become dryer, probably because of the changing weather. Her lips had a slight shine to them, it looked like a certain someone finally chose to apply some balm to them after complaining about how dry they were all day. Instead, groaning when her lover told her she had left the product in their bedroom, upstairs. Apparently, it was too far away.
She was so pretty.
And Keith wanted to kiss her.
Once more, he moved, expecting some kind of reaction when he buried his face in the neck. Nothing. Only the sound of Katie turning a page could be heard in the quietness of the room.
What could she be reading that was more interesting than him?
His arms held her event tighter around the waist as he leaned more into her. The only acknowledgment he got was her readjusting her position to be more comfortable against the pillows behind her back resting on their bed's headboard. She stayed silent, but it was fine, he had other ideas.
As Keith slowly traced his hands up and down her back, his lips began leaving soft kisses on her neck and under her jaw. She still did absolutely nothing.
That just wasn't going to be okay, the man doesn't care if after this she teases him even more by mocking how he is the most clingy boyfriend in the universe, he was in total need of her love and attention immediately.
Once he reached the bottom of her (his) shirt, Keith made his way under it to feel her bare skin on his palm and resume earlier motions. Finally, he managed to get a reaction from her, just not the one he wanted.
"Thanks." What was she thanking him for? "Your hands are so warm, 'makes me cozy." Keith liked how, most of the time, he didn't have to ask his questions out loud. She already knew what he was thinking.
Most of the time. Not always. She sometimes forgot because something was common knowledge for her, it wasn't for everyone.
His victory didn't last long, she was already back to giving all of her attention to her stupid book.
"Katie." She hummed. "Katie." How could she jot hear the needy tone in his voice? "Kaaaaaaatie." "I'm trying to read."
She just wasn't getting it until he outright said it was she?
"I know, that's the problem."
And thus, her eyes finally found his. "How does me reading a novel bother you? Want me to read it out loud for you? I don't believe this is the type of literature you like..." They were just not on the same page yet.
"Kiss me. I think I'm a good boyfriend and deserve your attention, not that book." She pursed her lips, obviously trying not to laugh. " You did all of this instead of just asking me? You're so needy, maybe it's because I spoil you too much..." So she did notice his actions. "Does that mean no kiss?"
He knew she was doing it on purpose. Slowly reaching for her bookmark. Acting as if it needed to be perfectly placed between the pages. Closing said book carefully, like she cared about not ruffling the pages before setting it down on the bedside table, grinning innocently at him. "You can be so annoying sometimes."
"You still love me though," said Katie as she tenderly reached for his cheeks.
If it was any other day, Keith would probably have hurried to smash his lips against hers. Not tonight. He was way too tired and he could tell his girlfriend was too.
As soon as it began getting cold outside, Katie was already looking forward to the start of hot chocolate season. In her opinion, it tasted better when the weather was chilly. In her exact words, the warmth of the drink was good for her heart.
They met each other halfway, kissing slowly, arms wrapped around the other, sharing body heat. It felt heavenly.
Gone was the girl he shared his first kiss with a few years ago, who always kissed him as if she had to calculate all her moves in advance, worried she would mess the moment up.
Honestly, he used to be like that too.
Not anymore, they just knew each other that well now.
No need to think, her body, her soul, understood him perfectly. The same could be said the other way around.
No words were necessary, as they closed the bedsides lamps simultaneously and lied down, their bodies tangled together in an instant.
"I love you Keith."
"Love you too."
If only every day could be as calm as this one. They would probably never want to leave their bed ever again, but they would be content with that.
As long as he had her, Keith didn't need anything else.
