Day 2: Pumpkin
*******
If anyone told him that day, when he had believed he lost Shiro forever, that he would eventually find people that would never leave his life, Keith would scream in their face. Calling that person a liar before going back to his solitude.
If anyone told him after seeing the first reaction of the people he had dared to think as his friends had when they found out about his heritage, that he would one day find love, someone who could accept all of his flaws, Keith would ignore them.
If anyone told him when he saw the state the earth was in when they came back only to find the Galra already there, that this war would one day end, Keith wouldn't be capable of believing them even if he tried with all his will.
If anyone told him, as he watched along with some of the most important people in his life Allura walk away with Haggar, that he would one day be able to find happiness again, Keith wouldn't manage to say anything...
But there he was, in the house he shared with the most amazing woman he had ever met. The most intelligent and courageous one he met in this vast universe.
At only 25, he had fought in a ten-thousand-years-old war, won and somehow survived and declared his love to the one he had liked in secret for a long time, who surprisingly didn't reject him and moved in together with her little space caterpillars and his teleportation wolf.
This honestly sounded like something straight out of a fantasy book.
"I'm so beating you at this!" The man chuckled. "I thought you said this wasn't a competition?" Katie enthusiastically laughed from the other side of the table. "I was obviously lying and we both knew that."
Shiro had once questioned how everything they did didn't turn into a contest. The answer hadn't surprised him at all. Cooking, doing the laundry and taking Kosmo on a walk, even brushing their teeth were often a friendly game. A loving one? Except cleaning or fixing more complicated things. Katie was better at the latter, while Keith was the one who actually made sure everything was tidy. At least her files were always organized, obviously colour coded. The complete opposite of her side of the wardrobe.
He currently couldn't see her face, hidden behind the pumpkin she had chosen that was bigger than her head as she carved it. He just knew she was smirking.
When everything was over, most were surprised when Pidge and Keith both refused offers from the Garrison and the Blade of Marmora to work with them. Instead the young adults had preferred travelling together. Providing their help and expertise whenever they could.
Like that, they could always be with each other, rarely being apart for more than a few days.
They might have become a bit codependent, but who could really blame them? After everything they went through at such a young age, it was only normal for them to need someone who understood them late at night to lure them into sleep.
As soon as the one-hour timer beeped, their hands dropped everything before being raised in the air, ready to judge the other's creation.
The table was a complete mess, pumpkin seedsalloverit, alongwiththemany pieces that had cut. They would clean this later.
"Ok, one three. One... Two.... Three!"
Laughter erupted in the quiet house. "Keith, what the hell is that supposed to be! It looks like a deformed bunny!"
A fake offended expression made its way on his face as he dramatically gripped his shirt where heart was. "No it does not! That's very extremely obviously Kosmo! How dare you insult my son like this, you crazy scientist!"
As Katie doubled over in laughter, he scrutinized her work. "How can you possibly make fun of my pumpkin while the cat you made is as awful as my attempt at making Kosmo?" She copied his earlier actions, putting on a show of her own. "That is not a mere cat, it's Greenie! I just ran out of time to make her as perfect as the real one!"
He jokingly shook his head. "Excuses. Excuses. Excuses. You're just not the artsy type Ms. Holt." "Well, neither are you Mr. Kogane."
Once they finally calmed down, Keith walked over to his girlfriend, wrapping his arms around her and turning her in his direction, placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
"Maybe we both suck at this, you more than me though," said Katie before kissing him on the lower jaw. Even if, with the years she had grown a few more inches, so did he, making it nearly impossible for her to reach his lips unless the other didn't accommodate to the other's height.
Understanding what she really wanted, he bent down, both automatically tilting their heads to the side before feeling the same fire from the time they shared their first kiss with each other. "Whatcha thinkin' about?"
Keith blinked before forcing his attention back on her questioning eyes. "Nothing, I'm just appreciating the life I have with you." She hummed as his hands traced the skin of her cheek before leaning back down to kiss her properly once again.
"How about we put these bad boys on our front porch? Everyone will be able to see that two artists reside here now."
Chuckling, he went over to open the front door as she brought hers than his. "Well, don't they look beautiful next to each other?" "Yeah, the ugliness of yours makes mine look even better," she murmured.
"I heard that missy..."
It didn't take long for them to head back inside, deciding to clean now, knowing they would be too lazy to do it later. Once they were done, Katie announced she was going to pick the movie for tonight, hurrying out of the kitchen before Keith's voice stopped her.
"Is something wrong, I would like to remind you that it is actually my turn to ch-"
"I love you Katie."
"Oh, I love you too Keith."
