Day 9: Happy Halloween!

*******

It was supposed to be a nice night. Spending time with his friends and family, decompressing from life, work and, especially, be with her.

So why was he standing so far away from the girl he loved, forced to watch some dumbasses try to impress her?

Lance and Hunk had practically begged Shiro and Allura to convince them to let them organize a Halloween party at the space castle to show off earth's tradition to the coalition.

Thinking this would be good for morale, they accepted and sent an invitation, telling everyone to dress up as references from their planet.

Immediately, the inhabitants of the castle began crafting their costumes, all choosing to keep it a secret from the others until the night of the event. They made sure Shiro wouldn't try to dress up as a paladin even if he had stepped down as a paladin, just to be sure.

Keith didn't really understand the altean's disguises, nor Hunk's, but according to Pidge, he was a character from a popular movie. That didn't really explain why the yellow paladin insisted that hiding one of the mice under his chef hat he had fabricated was essential. Lance went as a rather convincing zombie, frightening quite a lot of guests with how realistic it was. Shiro went as a ghost using a sheet with two holes for the eyes, which totally disappointed Pidge, Lance and Hunk. As for the team genius, she had gone as a witch. Creating a beautiful black dress along with a broom that could fly and, according to her, she had "magically" made it.

"Aw, how cute! Your costume matches Pidge's!" Keith rolled his eyes. "I told you already, I'm not a black cat, I'm the Black lion, it's different!" "Blah, blah, blah. Whatever you want to believe, buddy," Lance exclaimed, making Pidge chuckle.

But seriously, it was really just a coincidence. They were trying to hide their relationship, having a couple's costumes wasn't the best way to stay lowkey.

Which was also why he couldn't just walk up to her and steal her away from people's attention.

Pidge looked really beautiful in that dress, it showed perfectly how much she had grown in the last four years.

It was honestly killing him to be so far away from her. What he would do to feel her lips against his right now...

"Keith!" Oh, right, he was talking with Shiro before he saw those aliens approach her. "Yeah, what? Sorry, got distracted." Shiro turned his head in the direction Keith was still looking at, raising an eyebrow. "Staring at Pidge?"

The black paladin's cheeks flushed. "What! No way, I... I was just observing the wonderful decoration. Lance and Hunk really outdid themself." The older man chuckled. "If you say so."

*******

It was only way later that Keith finally managed to steal some of her time after finding her leaning on a wall far away from everyone, feeling proud when her bored expression lit upon spotting him. "Keith! How are you enjoying your night so far?"

"Better now that I'm with you." She grinned at him. "Yeah, I could tell you missed me by how much you were starting. The secret will be out before we know it if you keep being that subtle about it."

Keith scowled, observing the crowd as Lance tried understanding how Pidge's broom worked, falling off of it multiple times in the process. He was certainly good at entertaining everyone, including him and his girlfriend.

"Well... Maybe I wouldn't be against everyone knowing, like that, people would stop flirting with you..." "Huh? What was that last part?" She moved closer to him, blinking innocently. They both knew she had totally heard him. Whatever. "I said, maybe then idiots would stop flirting with you."
