"Wake up!" I heard from what sounded like far away. I groaned.
"Goddamn it wake up y/n!" I heard it was closer now. It sounded like Daryl.
"Daryl?" I said opening my eyes to his blurred face and looking down at me.
"Goddamnit I thought I lost you. I can't lose anyone else." He said, ripping his shirt sleeve a bit and tying it around his waist. I blinked seeing he had one of his bolts through his side.
"Oh my god are you okay?"
"Yea, you ain't though." He said motioning down. I sat up a bit but only got dizzy and fell back into the hard mud.
"Easy now, stay down, I'm just gonna get my crossbow then see what to do about ya." He explained grabbing a stick from nearby and going into the deeper part of the water fishing for his bow. I reached a hand up to touch my head and when I brought it back it was covered in blood. That ain't good.
Curious as to what he was referring to I slowly sat up and I saw one of his bolts sticking through my ankle and into the top of my shoe. That was when I finally felt the pain and screamed. He came running back.
"Woah, calm down it's okay. We just gotta get back to base. Hershal can fix ya up" Daryl said calming me down, holding his crossbow to the side.
"I will be back, I gotta find a way out okay? There were some ropes on that old mare, she ran off maybe they fell off her when she ran."
"No, please, don't leave me Daryl please."
"It's okay I will be back." He said limping off to start climbing his way out of the embankment. I don't know what happened next, the bright sunlight turned to darkness again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hey get up" I hear Daryl say and a shove to my side. I opened my eyes and he was towering over me. He had blood dripping from his mouth and rotting ears hanging from his neck.
"Darl? What happened?"
"We are getting out of here. I know your ankle hurts pretty bad, your head too, I'm in pain too but we gotta get out of here" He said helping me to my feet and pushing me to the side of the ravine.
"Follow behind me okay?" I nodded, silently wondering to myself how on earth will I climb with an arrow through my foot. He started climbing and I followed behind gasping at the seeing pain.
We were almost to the top when he threw his stick down, so he could grab onto the trees better. He looked up as birds flew overhead and then turned his head to look at the edge of the cliff like he was listening to something. Daryl then looked down grunting as he lifted himself up a ledge.
"I liked it better when you were missing." I was confused who was he talking to?
"Yea? Since when?" He said as if he was having a conversation with someone else. He grabbed onto a nearby vine.
"You never took care of me." Did he hit his head too? "You talk a big game but you were never there, hell you ain't here now, guess some things never change."
"Daryl, who are you talking to? I'm right here." He just ignored me.
"I know what I saw" He turned around ready to lift himself up onto the embankment.
"You best shut the hell up."
"Okay, I'm sorry," I said not knowing why he was getting so mean all of a sudden. He continued climbing up leaving me behind. He reached the top of the embankment.
"Yeah, you'd better run!" I heard him yell. A second later a roped got thrown down beside me.
"Take it y/n," He said. I did and started to climb. The pain was overbearing but I tried to think of something else. He grabbed my arm and hoisted me the rest of the way up.
"Who...Who were you talking to?" I said lying on the ground trying to catch my breath.
"No one." He said hoisting me up to my feet, putting an arm around me helping me walk.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know how long we were walking for, but I'm sure I was slowing him down, but he didn't seem to mind. We finally came across the clearing into the farm.
"Finally." He muttered continuing to help me limp into the clearing. I looked up seeing through my blurred vision four figures running closer and closer. Then I saw Rick and Austin holding a gun up.
Austin pointed the gun at me, and Rick pointed his at Daryl.
"Is that Daryl, Y/n?" Glenn asked.
"That's the third time you pointed that thing at my head," Daryl said, making Rick lower his gun. Austin kept his pointed at me for a second before lowering it, he then looked between me and Daryl. I could tell he wasn't happy seeing another man's arm around me. He didn't seem to care that my head was bleeding and a bolt was in my foot.
Suddenly something hit me knocking me to the ground again darkness surrounded me.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up looking at a white ceiling and lying on a bed.
"Hey there," Rick said from beside me.
"Rick?" I said looking over and seeing him in a chair and Daryl leaning against a wall.
"Where is Austin?"
"He went to get you some food. Figured you should be waking up soon. You have been asleep since yesterday." Rick explained.
"Daryl you okay?" I asked he just nodded. He had cleaned up and changed clothes.
"Andrea tried to shoot you, it just grazed your head, but as I understand it you already hit your head. Explains why you slept for so long. Your foot will be okay by the way, at least Hershal says so. It didn't hit any bone just went through the top of your ankle and the top of your boot is all." Rick explained.
The door opened, and Austin walked in with a plate of food.
"Guess we will leave you two alone then," Rick said leaving out the door, Daryl hesitated for a second but then decided to go.
"You learn your lesson?" Austin asked as soon as the door shut.
"Lesson?"
"Yes, that you mind me and you don't get hurt."
"What do you mean?"
"I told you to come with me but you stayed behind with him"
"He said I could.."
"I don't care, you are mine, you do what I say okay?" I just nodded not wanting to fight him. He smiled happily and gave me my food.
"You got me and that's all Y/n, I wish you would understand that sweetheart."
"But the group."
"They just are helping you cause they gotta, not cause they want to.
I just nodded not wanting to argue with him further. I ate the ham and green beans that were on my plate. It was the first real food I had had in a long while. The ham reminded me of the Christmases I had with my family so many years ago. I thought about the Christmas tree and the dinner my mom always cooked on Christmas Eve. We would always exchange gifts with each other on Christmas Eve. Then Santa would come that night. I smiled remembering how my mother always loved playing Santa, even after learning the truth about him. Even as I became a teenager I would still sneak into the living room early in the morning to see what was left for me. I wondered if my mom ever knew I did that.
Guess Christmas is over in this new world. I don't even know what month it was now. The nights were getting colder, maybe it was October.
Oh, how I missed Halloween.
