Ch.88 [ Shadow of The Universe ]

Every single Root in area held a different weapon, staring onto the cocoon and the destruction that was spread around it. The darkness which before had been connected to the top of the station and bottom had let go and spiraled around like protective winds.

"Dammit. Nothing's working, even after communications came back." Root which looked like Scathach muttered out, standing next to few others. "Worst, even such things as Rule Breaker didn't work." Another Root which looked like Medea spoke next to her, while in distance the cocoon started accelerating the dark winds.

"Boss!" They heard a voice of a girl as she was followed by a guy. "Did you finish the rounds and making sure everything is safe?" One of Root's asked Mona as she smiled. "Clean!" She said with relaxed expression, as her eyes finally landed on the dark cocoon. "What's that?" asking this question, Mona pointed at it.

John quickly grabbed her by arm "Sorry Boss! I couldn't keep her in spot." He apologised but his eyes were also attracted for a moment towards the cocoon.

'Hmm?' Medea Root looked at the bracelets and grabbed John by it 'What's this? It's not material that I know.' Medea questioned it in her head as John stared nervously at the M-Root. 'Meh.' She let it go and turned back towards the cocoon.

Everyone looked at it, as other Root's in distance readied massive attacks. "You two might want to move back, or you'll get caught in the attack." Both of them spoke at once.

But the two didn't register the warning as their eyes were widened at the cocoon unnoticed to two as they were already walking towards the cocoon.

John and Mona took a step back, they looked at each other with widened eyes. "Cardinal?" Both muttered to each other and started backing off.

Memories resurfaced for them. The memories where they met William in the Cardinal World (Shield Hero's).

Meanwhile. The cocoon started slowly cracking open "Ready!" One shout went through the area. Each attack was fully formed and readied to shoot as more cracks appeared.

'You won't break that shit.' Wolf thought to himself in distance as he was observing the strange phenomena, but it wouldn't be first one to observe for him thorough the years. 'How long was it since I witnessed last Ascend?' he pondered for a moment as a wounded Root walked up to him "Any info on that bastard."

She asked with venom, not receiving an answer as she soon snarled with venom "Tsk! Can't believe it took us an hour to regenerate."

"That's what happens when you play with Nahaldrium." Wolf commented and turned to her "Also, technically. I killed him."

Root turned to him with glare "It was my attack that pierced that bastards core! And he didn't die!" to this response, he only shrugged his shoulders which further infuriated Root "Shall we have a look at the contract again? I'm quite sure it said to destroy 'core' or kill the target.

It didn't specify how I'm supposed to do it." He smirked pulling out the magical contract the two had signed.

"I hate universe..." Root muttered and shoo'ed him away. 'Welp. Time for me kid, I couldn't care less for what happens now.' Wolf smirked to himself and turned around as he started walking away. Root didn't say anything but joined her other selves.

The white light which was following each Root like a puppy lit in new light, as they all heard in unison "New adaption has been found and fixed." This meant one thing, the cocoon could be finally attacked.

"Set." The attacks were then modified to add onto themselves the white light.

"FIRE!" She shouted as barrage of white light invaded the area in massive proportion to destroy the dark cocoon.
