He ran out and down the rock tumble, into the clearing. Night would be falling soon. He ran through the heather, and skidded to a halt as he bumped into Blaze, awaiting at the entrance. Amax widened his eyes as the giant black wolf growled. All the pups who were gathered began to snicker at him and murmur to each other.

 "Watch it!" Blaze snapped.

"I-" Amax stammered. "I thought B-Bluéda was tonights mentor." He didn't actually get informed or anything, he just assumed it. And now he felt overly embarrassed.

Blaze just grunted, looming over him. His eyes narrowed, and he whipped around and walked to where the entrance stood. Amax had never seen the entrance of the pack before. It had one huge boulder on one side, and another on the other, with one long one resting on the top, so wolves could pass through the middle. The leaders had called this part, Two-Rocks-Border. Rows of tall tree's and rocks lined Two-Rocks-Border.

No one remembers how this came to be, many believe it was Garo who created the camp walls. Amax looked over at the pups and saw Ash, Bescona, Sky, Star, Cloud, and four other young pups. Amax decided to take a spot beside his friend.

"Listen up!" Blaze's voice sounded from all over the small crowd of young wolves. Blaze's coat shone under the star caped sky, and his scars looked like they were a fresh cut, but everybody knew that he got those scars when he was over four months old, but now he was over six years of age.

"Today we are going to learn to hunt. Let us try some rabbits for starters." Blaze announced. Everyone except Amax and Ash, bounced up and down, impatient and ready to go. They headed for the stream where the fish slept. No fish were in sight, which probably meant no fish in the stream tonight (a/n: rhyme intended XD). They headed down a path and to the quiet forest. They saw Blaze's ears twitch as he heard something in the bushes ahead of them. He sniffed the air, and widened his eyes.

"This way!" he ordered, his voice a harsh whisper. They followed him, through the grass, up towards a funky tree. "Keep your body low, and try to mask your scent!" he said, rolling in dirt and mud. His followers nodded and kept low.

Why is this necessary? Amax thought irritably. Wolves don't usually roll in mud, that I know of anyhow.

They all pricked their ears as a crunch sounded in the trees.

Hoot Hoot Hoot

They all looked up and saw an owl creeping in its nest. Blaze walked right past it like he didn't even notice, or care. Amax ran up to him quietly.

"But there is an o-" he got interrupted by Blaze's low growl.

"Owls do not matter." He snapped quietly. They all peeked over the bush and saw a very small, young elk drinking from the sleeping stream. It lifted its head as Amax accidentally stepped on a twig that snapped in half, and all the pups looked over at him, infuriated. The elk lifted its head, its ear twitching as it looked around suspiciously, before continuing its drink.

Blaze quietly stalked forward, with his body low, and his ears laid flat against his head. He hovered his tail above the ground, careful not to swish it. He avoided stepping on leaves or twigs. Blaze moved his paws deftly. He got closer to the elk, and finally, used his haunches to lunge forward. He dug his teeth into its neck before it could react.

Blood trickled down the prey's neck, and soon it was no more but wolf food.

I thought we were catching rabbits...

But moments later, Amax watched in amazement as Blaze taught the other pups to catch smaller prey. Ash nearly caught the tail of a rabbit, and Bescona was able to kill a mouse. All Amax had caught was...nothing.

Blaze didn't seemed pleased with any of the pups catches though, but then again, when was he ever pleased with anything?

But who cared what the huge, black wolf didn't feel pleased with? They were all just pups, and learning, learning quickly. Amax thought it was quite impressive on what the other pups had caught. Moon and Cloud had worked together to take down a hare. Amax watched in amusement as Bescona nosed through the bushes. She leapt after a running racoon, disappearing behind the leaves. She appeared once again, her glossy eyes wide, and trotted off sadly without her prey.

Everyone made their way back to the Residence, just as the moon was at its highest point. "At the next Training Patrol," Blaze announced, "we will be learning attacking skills. Now it is quite late, and I bet your cozy pelt beds are waiting for you. I know mine is." He muttered, rolling his eyes. The trainees nodded and before going to their den, dropped their tiny prey into a small pile.

Amax made his way to his den with one of the rabbits that were in the pile. He walked towards his den, and passed Morzt, one of the Hunting-Guards, of who was guarding his parents den. He did a slight nod and slipped in. Amax found his mother and father sleeping. Not a surprise, they had worked harder today than they had in a long time, and he was grateful he got to do something without their eyes on him the whole time for once, though it was quite surprising they hadn't stayed awake for when he came back.

He dropped the rabbit next to them for the morning, before curling up next to his mother's side and drifting off to sleep.

"How is everything going?" Dusk demanded, his eyes glowing.

"Very well, sir." Replied his packmate. "Just a few more courses and our wolves shall be ready for tomorrow."

"I'm glad." Dusk rumbled. "How is Nightly and Midnight doing?" He asked, narrowing his eyes in pure curiosity.

"Outstanding, sir, they are doing better than the rest." The red wolf backed up, looking the opposite way. "They are top in the course and have most definitely not failed a single one, of that matter."

"Hmm. I see." Dusk's large yellow eyes glowed with pride.

Southern Pack, just how smart do you think you are? You probably don't even know the answer that. You all have brains like fleas. Dusk thought, scowling. I wonder. How much elk do you have? Enough to feed my hungry group of wolves? Well then, shall my pack take care of that for you? I think we shall.
