The huge animal narrowed its yellow eyes, hissing as it threatened to jump closer from its position on the branch of a tree right before them.
They flinched and slowly backed up.
"Shouldn't it be running away right now? Climbing up a tree?" Colaro titled his head, overly confused.
Amax remained quiet, theorizing the creature intended to do harm, but just didn't quite know how to take them all on.
"We must be in its territory!" Colaro blurted out, as if he was just realizing that now."What do we do, what do we do-" Sky stuttered.
"We'll just back away slowly, then run away!" Bescona told them, a lack of confidence in her voice.
"I don't think we can outrun a mountain lion." Ash indicated. The huge cat spat, jumping forward, its eyes glowing mercilessly. Surely it had to be somewhat terrified?
"Go away!" Ash whined.
"Shut up!" Colaro gasped as they all began to sprint.
While everyone else ran, Amax faced the mountain lion, growling and snapping his jaws as if some imaginary elk was there. The cat seemed unsure, but as Amax's group got further away, it seemed as thought it felt more confident that he could take his rival on. The cougar seemed to grin, and unsheathing its claws, took after Amax.
The small grey wolf, insecure on what to do, sprinted, his packmates and new aardwolf friend no where in sight. Did they purposely abandon him? Maybe they thought of him as their protector and that he could handle it? No, what a silly thought! But it could be true. As the mountain lion veered off and took up a tree, Amax began to think he was finally safe. Until he looked to the tree above to see the cat leaping down, preparing to land square on the wolf's shoulders. Amax grunted as the cougar land atop him, sinking his teeth into the cat's scruff. It yowled, pummelling its paws into his stomach, making his eyes flash with pain.
Bang!
Something came out of nowhere, bowling the cougar over, wrestling with it until the creature screamed it's catlike scream and struggled to get away. It sprinted into the bushes, gone and out of sight.
As Colaro and the wolf pups also made a reappearance, they helped Amax get up, apologizing and saying they thought that he was behind them. As they stood up, they glanced over at the attacker- or in another case, defender.
A bobcat growled before them, and shook its head side to side. It had a nasty cut on its eye, definitely a new scar.
It past the wolf pups, heading for a sodden forest path.
"Hold on, who are you?" Amax asked the bobcat.
It stopped and turned around, snarling.
"How about the name, I-saved-your-life!" She purred, satisfaction edging her tone.
"I'm Amax." He said in an irritated tone. What are you doing?! Making friends?? He thought bitterly to himself.
"I'm Bolie, but instead could probably go for I'm-saving-every wolves-lives-these-days!" She said angrily and annoyed. Her grey coat bristled, her ears laid flat against her head.
"Wolves? Wolves! Have you seen a grey wolf with darker brown shading and glowing yellow eyes?" Woah, get real descriptive, man.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure every wild animal has seen her. I saw her not too long ago, actually. She thinks she can just wander everywhere she likes! She's got to learn that the whole forest isn't her territory." Bolie spat.
