"I'm not letting you trick me! Tell me where they are!" Amax yelled desperately.
"I'm telling the truth." Blaze sat down, his neck fur puffed up. "A season after you left, The Northern Pack had attacked our camp and Dawn and Dusk had killed your parents. I tried to defend them, but I couldn't. Then we tried to decide who would be Alpha since you had left. We decided I'd be leader, with my mate. Now, let's see. . .I'll make sure to assign you as a Hunting-Guard and as well as your friends." Blaze was deep in thought, his eyes bleary.
Amax felt hollow. His breath came in cold, short gasps. He felt like he could just attack the black wolf right now. His parents were dead? They couldn't be, they would never lose to such Northern Wolves!
"I'm rightful Alpha! I'm here now! I'm Alpha, and I deserve it! And I'll find someone to stand by my side." Amax yelled at the top of his lungs, racing out of the den before Blaze could say anything else. That may of sounded arrogant...but it's true, isn't it?
Amax didn't utter a word out loud, he just kept running and running. What if Blaze was lying? Maybe he was hiding them somewhere. But deep down, Amax knew that no matter how much of a bad tempered and evil wolf Blaze may be, he would never lie about a wolf's death, especially a leaders, even if he himself wanted to claim the spot.
He felt so angry. He couldn't take an Alphas spot unless none of the rightful heirs were left. But they all had thought they wouldn't come back, so they had agreed. And once a pack agrees on a leader, there weren't many ways for them to step down.
Am I too young for this?
He stopped at the edge of the frozen stream, the sun not even melting the snow a little bit. He threw his head back and let out a long, despairing howl. He slammed his body to the cold ground and put both paws over his face. He felt like he wanted to rip his own eyes out.
He heard paw steps thumping towards him and he looked up to see his sister looking at him. Before she could speak he jumped up and threw his face into her trembling one.
"You knew, you all did!" He cried. Alastro jumped back startled.
"What?" Was all she said. Amax tried to speak. His mouth moved but no words came out. Finally, he managed.
"I can't believe this. You never told me. Our parents are dead?" His voice was barely a whisper.
"Amax, I was going to tell you-"
"You knew though! Why didn't you stop them?" His voice cracked, his eyes getting watery and heavy feeling. He didn't let her answer. "I had no idea! How could my own sister I finally decided to trust break that trust?" Amax snapped. "Family is all about trust! You tell each other what is going on, you don't hide it, especially when it is so miserable."
She moved closer to him, and Amax settled down a little, realizing how bad behaved he was being. Could she actually have been grieving and the nerve to feel bad, when she hadn't even been raised by them and had only ever found love in the North?
"Amax, I-I'm so sorry this happened. There wasn't anything that I could do about it, you can't blame me when I hardly even knew them. Skyle is the only parent I know." She said softly. "You'll make a wonderful Alpha. and they'll be watching you from Garo, I bet."
"Blaze had declared himself that position. Don't make me think anything of it, it's over now." Amax muttered.
"I bet Aztec and Aclisa are trying to tell you to stop this nonsense and start doing something. Start by finding yourself a mate, I know a certain couple options for you to ask. And then working step by step to make yourself the titled leader. Now go. No more questions."
