Amax stared in shock, his tail wagging, while Star was frozen, like her body was made out of blocks of ice. After what seemed like forever, she bounded over to him in gleeful leaps, running her snout along his head.
Amax caught up to her and smiled.
"Ah, ow!" Sky winced as Amax nosed his flank in greeting.
"Sorry!" He pulled away immediately.
Seeing how happy Star was to see him and asking constantly how he managed to recover ever so quickly, Amax went over to find Bescona.
Amax's heart pounded, his anxiety to speak to her creeping up on him. He found her talking to Ash, who peered at him closely before grinning and slinking away, clearing getting the 'message'.
"Hey." She said, shifting her weight around and withdrawing her tail so it rested atop her paws.
He sat down closely beside her.
They didn't look at each other, there wasn't much to talk about, anyways.
Amax wondered why Millie would do such a thing, running off, knowing that she shouldn't have.
"I don't think we should continue, at least until Sky feels a little better. He really got it good." Bescona said quietly, avoiding eye contact.
"Agreed." Amax said. At this rate, it might take a couple days. One, if they were lucky. They could just move slow, maybe? It was unlikely, with their friend suffering from an injury like that. He could have easily died, and without Marcus with them, it probably would have been so.
Relaying the news to the others, they settled down and looked for other scraps of meat or signs of water. Amax collapsed under the shade of an oak tree, its wide leaves stretching far over his head.
He drifted through a light nap, his nose twitching and his tail laying limply behind him.
He knew he wasn't dreaming, even though he was asleep. He couldn't scent anything, and couldn't see anything. It was just a black abyss, that was all.But the only thing that came to his mind, was memories. Memories seemed to flood over him, but he couldn't even see them, which confused him. How could he think of memories, when he couldn't picture them in his head?
He woke up with a start, the moon disappearing, and the light of dawn appearing. He'd woken up once or twice throughout his nap, not even feeling all that tired.
He listened as the birds sang their usual morning melodies, the waterfall falling in the far distance. He got up and arched his back in a long, comfortable stretch.
He lapped at a large pool of water, its refreshing liquid sinking into his lungs and making him feel more cooled down then the last few days.It disappeared as he felt the warm breath of someone coming up behind him.
"We're ready to get moving again. Sky said he is feeling better, he just might be limping a little, so we can't go very fast." Star said.
Amax nodded and felt the air current of his other companions brushing past him.
He cantered to catch up, feeling more motivated than ever.He could taste the scent of a wolf, but it was stale. It had to be Millie, they hand't seen, heard or even encountered any other of their species since the twins by the gorge. He couldn't decide if it was unusual, or if it was normal.
He was about to tell the others, but he sensed their excitement. They must've picked up the scent too! He froze in alarm, his ears pricked as he came across the sound of pounding paw steps, getting closer and closer, until they stopped, and retreated backwards.
